The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Bit of a buzz in town this weekend as it is the first time that the whole resort is open. Still, pretty quiet though and no lift lines to report! It was raining a little bit in the village early but should have been some light snow up top. Visibility is not the best but snow condition should still be good. Yesterday was a great day on the slopes with that fresh powder out there and the clouds lifted in the afternoon for some amazing scenes. We may get a bit of sunshine tomorrow then looking like some good snowfalls ahead. Anyway, top to bottom out there on almost all the runs so hope you can get to enjoy it. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After the "magic foot" two nights we got hit with a "phantom foot" last night with Mother Nature depositing another 30cm of the white fluffy stuff on our doorstep. It was a bit unexpected we went in for dinner and came out and the car was under 20cm of fresh snow. All this will make for another great day on the slopes today and also help big time with building that base. So looking good for opening of the whole resort tomorrow morning Saturday. Yesterday was a terrific day with fresh tracks and sunshine on offer ands still no lift lines actually barley anyone on the slopes at all! The good time look set to continue in Nozawa with another sneaky foot of snow expected on Sunday night. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Nozawa opened yesterday of course and it was a cold and snowy day out there. So snowy in fact that the resort this morning is telling us that they saw 40cm of fresh snow up on Yamabiko since yesterday. Couldn't ask for much more than that. With that new snowfall Yamabiko is now on 100cm. This morning there is some low cloud covering things down by the village but a look at the webcams shows that up at Yamabiko it is lovely and clear with lots of clear sky and the sun shining down on the snowy runs. Looks very inviting, to say the least! Weather-wise, it's probably more of the same tomorrow as well, a bit warmer than today but still keeping fairly cold and then Tuesday onwards we can expect more snow to be falling up top. Looks like it will be rain down in the village but Yamabiko should be receiving fresh top-ups. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It is a beautiful morning in Nozawa, different from yesterday for sure with that wet stuff falling from the sky. Yes it was raining yesterday down below, but happily those naughty rain clouds have moved on and this morning the sun is out and blie skies all round. Resort lift operations remain unchanged as we wait for a decent snowfall to kick things off proper. It looks like we might soon be getting that. There is some very heavy snowfall forecast for the weekend and into Monday, and if it comes off then we will certainly quickly be seeing a lot more of the lifts moving. Fingers crossed. If you plan to be here over the weekend come prepared for snow, cold temperatures and possibly strong winds as well. I'll keep you posted. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning and welcome to the Nozawa Onsen season! Yes this morning just a few hours ago the first lifts took eager skiers and snowboarders up the mountain for their first Nozawa flavoured slides of the season. Lifts operating Nagasaka Gondola Yamabiko Four Yamabiko No 2 Four Courses open Yamabiko A Course Yamabiko B Course Yamabiko C Course Yamabiko D Course Yamabiko E Course Kokenashi So basically it's the top area of the resort that is open. And what better weather to have than snow falling. We have a few cm in the village this morning and probably a bit more up top, but it is still snowing and the Yamabiko area is reporting a snow depth 60cm of snow for this first day of the season. Hopefully that will be more by the end of today. It looks like things will clear up tomorrow and Monday but we can expect a return to snowfall on Tuesday. From now until 21st December, lift tickets will be at special prices - 3000 yen (adult), 1500 yen (up to 15 year olds) and 2000 yen (over 60s). Official snow depths Yamabiko 60cm! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa. And it's a snowy one. I was going to post a report yesterday but with one thing and another - mostly the rain - I thought I would wait until today. Yes it was a wet one yesterday as in many parts of the region, but overnight it turned into snow and we have some down to village this morning and the slopes are looking all nice and white. Hurray! Doesn't look like it will continue beyond today though with clearer and warmer conditions forecast for tomorrow and then the next snowfall around the weekend. Nozawa Onsen ski area is hoping to open on 1st December. Opening us usually just the upper slopes, and so we'll just have to see what the situation is in the next few days to see whether that might be able to happen or not. I'll let you know. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good evening, and I bring good news. Real news.... We had more snow yesterday and Nozawa have announced that they are going to open on Saturday 1st December as planned. They plan to have the Nagasaka Gondola opening at 8:40am, and also the Yamabiko No2 Four Lift and the Yamabiko Four Lift will be operating. Courses that will be open are all of the Yamabiko Courses (A-E) and also the Kokenashi A Course.... so basically the top bit. From opening until Friday 21st December a one day lift ticket will be the special price of 3000 yen (adults), 1500 yen (under 15s) and 2000 yen for seniors. It has been a fine day here. If you do plan to be around for opening, be prepared for snowfall as we have a cold snowy front due late Friday into Saturday which should top up the slopes good and make for some very nice opening conditions up there. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . So yesterday we started off with those lovely blue skies. As often happens some thin clouds started to form early afternoon and we ended up with overcast skies by the time the lifts had closed for the day. This morning we have heavy looking grey cloud cover over Hakuba. Visibility seems to be pretty good though. And it's warm, as predicted. Right now it's +5C and we might well be looking at the temperature hitting 10C today and unfortunately rain is still looking likely, even on the resort slopes. We can just hope that damage is limited. Stronger winds likely later on today as well. As of 9am it is +2C up at 1400m on the Usagidaira area of Happo-one. The positive to take from this is that temps are set to drop as we move into tomorrow and hopefully by the time I'm posting tomorrow's report, I'll be able to report snow. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Light snow falling on and off yesterday on the mountain, with variable visibility as clouds moved in and out of the area and over the slopes. I was at Iwatake yesterday and one minute we had fine views of the valley.. the next it was thick fog and cloud with nothing to be seen apart from the guy 10m in front! It's a much clearer morning. Resorts not reporting any new cm of snowfall. Lots of blue sky over the village and just a few clouds here and there. But for the most part, bluebird. A fairly cold start to the day and today and tomorrow shouldn't warm up... too much. From Wednesday though it looks like someone in charge of the heating is going to be turning the dial up to '11', and it might actually get to be that warm by Wednesday afternoon. And warmer still as move into next weekend. No significant snow on the forecast through into next week I'm afraid (perhaps a sprinkling overnight tonight?) and lots of sunny and clear weather is likely. It seems odd talking about resorts closing for the season, but the first one to do so will be the small Hakuba Minekata... their last day of the season will be Sunday 10th March. Of course, some of the main resorts in the Hakuba region open through until May and so there's no need to panic! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . We have had a bit of rain this morning in Hakuba, both in village and up on the mountain apparently. It's a bit of a mixed bag already today actually as now the rain has eased off, the sun is out and there's quite a lot of blue sky up there behind the clouds that remain. Just as long as it doesn't rain! So we are hoping that won't come back but some local forecasts have us down for possibly rain later on today still. Today is going to be another warm one as this run of mild days continues in early March. We'll see temperatures rise up to double digits once again this afternoon. Snow conditions are generally as you would expect. Seems there might be a chance of snow at higher elevations tonight and into tomorrow, though wouldn't expect much to report in the morning. It's looking like the warmth will persist in the daytime tomorrow. Not windy though so at least everywhere should be open and if the sun is out there will be great scenery on show. Hopefully we'll be able to enjoy a nice spring-like weekend. After the storm, rain, wind, fog and cloud, we ended the say with lots of blue sky above Hakuba village and the sun making a late appearance. After the madness of yesterday, it's a much calmer start to this Monday morning. Much colder and some new snowfall on the mountains with, for example, 47 and Cortina reporting up to 5cm of fresh on their slopes. Currently around -2C at base and it won't warm up as much today. Variable visibility on the slopes around the valley. The sun is out and quite a lot of blue sky this morning, but cloud hanging around the mountains. Tomorrow is more likely to start off sunny and warm up to near 10C during the day and then be warmer until Thursday when we are due another short cold snap. A bit up and down at the moment. The Hakuba Minekata hill has closed now for the season. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After the very warm spring of yesterday, this morning we are back for a short blast of more winter like conditions in Hakuba. A modest dusting of fresh snow in places at village level, and resorts reporting a few cm at base and up to 5cm this morning. Not enough to cover the generally hard and icy conditions under it of course, but hey... it's snow! Mixed weather conditions this morning so far. Earlier on I saw quite a bit of blue sky behind the bank of clouds up there, but now it has really clouded over with some very poor visibility. A quick look at the Happo and Goryu upper webcams shows that visibility is down to almost nothing, but decent around the gondola at Hakuba 47. A moderate wind on mountain but resorts seem to be open as scheduled.
