It's still foggy too so can't really see where you are at all. Not often we have 2 days on the trot of conditions like this. Nice for it to feel colder again though. Let's hope that tomorrow for the last day of the season conditions will clear up a bit and we'll see the mountain. Unfortunately at the moment the forecast is for cloud and possibly rain. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . 15cm of fresh snow. You read correctly. 15cm of fresh snow up on the Yamabiko and Uenotaira slopes according to the resort, and we have even got a new coating of snow down at base and in the village as well. Perhaps no summer this year and clicking right into next season? Perhaps not. But it feel suitably cold this morning and it was a nice surprise to see snow down in the village. I haven't been up there myself yet but I am sure it will be a very happy Sunday for people here today, especially early on. Doubt many people thought they'd be getting to ride fresh snow. Fairly poor visibility on the upper slopes of the resort as it continues to snow. This coming week we are expecting it to start warming up again. • Nozawa Now: Monday 4th March 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 795cm Weather overview Overcast Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Good Posted on Monday 4th March 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We have had a light dusting of snow overnight in Nozawa Onsen; not much, just 1cm being reported by the resort up at Uenotaira (and 0cm in other areas). It's currently overcast with light winds but we expect clouds to move away some time this morning with a clear bluebird day forecast. Temperatures are set to remain relatively cool with a freezing level at about 600m. Groomed runs will be silky smooth and fast this morning and are set to remain in good condition with light weekday crowds. Through the trees will be mostly tracked out in obvious areas but with a bit of a hunt powder stashes are still on offer. With the fresh snow yesterday the whole mountain was in great form and the weekend crowds relished in the conditions. Off piste it was still possible to feel the icy base beneath and there were a few submerged death cookies, which required a good sense of the terrain, but riding was otherwise pretty good. Looking further ahead at the extended forecast we expect light snow showers tomorrow. These will be the last for some time so best to make the most of the conditions. Following that we expect an extended run of clear, warm spring days and cool nights. A gradual warming trend will occur until Saturday, when it was really warm up, after which a brief cool change is looking likely. --- Lifts operating: All lifts scheduled to be operating except Yunomine Pair Mizunashi Triple Challenge Pair Utopia Pair Hikage Number 2 Pair B line Courses open: All courses open except Grand Prix Kandahar East Kandahar West Challenge 39 Official snow depths: Yamabiko 380cm Uenotaira 355cm Hikage 205cm Nagasaka 200cm Karasawa 150cm Nozawa Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Monday 4th March 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 795cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 60cm (on 4th January) November 2012 snowfall 3cm reported on 1 day December 2012 snowfall 213cm reported on 15 days January 2013 snowfall 311cm reported on 18 days February 2013 snowfall 253cm reported on 16 days March 2013 snowfall 15cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It is a bright and blue sunny day here in Nozawa Onsen. We have had a nice top up of powder with 15cm being recorded across the resort (Uenotaira recorded slightly more at 20cm). It should be another good days riding across the groomed runs and the trees. Yesterday was an awesome day as heavy snow and extremely cold temperatures continued. We had about 60cm fall; enough so it really did feel bottomless through the trees. It was slightly crowded but the superb snow conditions made up for it. Taking a look at the forecast.... we still expect a warm spell tomorrow with the possibility of some rain down low/snow up high. The following day we should see very cold temperatures and snow continue for quite a few days. • Nozawa Now: Friday 1st February 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 527cm Weather overview Clear Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Excellent Posted on Friday 1st February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . February already. How time flies. And it's another stunner in Nozawa Onsen this morning. Brilliant atmosphere clarity is delivering spectacular views with a totally cloudless blue sky. Highly recommended to make the effort bringing the cameras up the mountain this morning. The groomed runs will be fast early with the cold overnight temperatures, probably grading to fun and slushy later. Off piste conditions should be quite variable; depending on sun exposure. We are expecting quite warm temperatures well into the positives, even at the top, so a classic spring like day is expected. Clear conditions will persist for the morning at least before bands of high cloud move over during the afternoon. Yesterday was one of the clearest days of the season so far. The Sea of Japan was easily visible with even Sado Island spotted offshore from the summit of Nozawa. It's not too often that we experience such visibility. Riding yesterday was also fun. Down low became heavy going and slushy during the afternoon thanks to warm temperatures. Up high the snow had a chalky consistency, excellent for throwing some spray. Off piste had nice snow in the shaded gullies but sun exposed areas became difficult and highly variable as the day wore on. Crowds were not an issue. The forecast looking ahead has slightly improved since yesterday, though still not great however. From late tonight and tomorrow morning we should see rain. Weather models predict a strong high pressure system sitting SE of Japan will interact with a developing low to draw up warm SSW airflow from the tropics. Tonight temperatures will continue to increase till 3am and then remain at about 2000-2400m until mid morning tomorrow. We should then see a gradual cooling trending with rain turning to snow around Saturday evening. Snow is possible on Sunday before a fast moving but less intense warm front passes through of Monday. Following that we should expect cool temperatures and possible snow. • Nozawa Now: Thursday 31st January 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 527cm Weather overview Clear Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Excellent Posted on Thursday 31st January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Well, what a day we have in Nozawa this morning; crystal clear skies with a couple of wispy high clouds. The Sea of Japan will be visible from near the summit. If you like fair weather skiing then today is your day. If you like spring skiing you will also enjoy the turns on offer. Runs will be slushy with the strong sun and warm temperatures as it’s nearly above freezing all the way to the top. Like the past couple of days crowds are non-existent. Yesterday was a fun day on the slopes. Good powder fields were on offer through the trees at Yamabiko as light snow continued throughout the day. With the small crowds vast stretches of untracked powder was accessible using a bit of local knowledge, although avalanche conditions are still dangerous. Groomed runs were for the most part firm and fast; a great day for testing out the edges. Unfortunately the forecast does not look so good. There are no two ways about it. We should expect very warm temperatures with rain tomorrow and Saturday. The temperature will drop to below sea level on Sunday, with quite a bit of snow possible. However, on Monday another warm front should pass through the region with the possibility of even more rain. It looks like after Monday we will finally in the clear with cold temperatures and possible snow making a return. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 469cm Weather overview Overcast, snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Varied Posted on Sunday 20th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . This morning we were woken to passing snow showers and overcast conditions in Nozawa Onsen. These should continue for the rest of day, becoming lighter later on. Out the window there are a few gusts of wind about also. Since lasts lifts yesterday we have had a nice top up of 20cm which should keep the power hounds happy and hunting. Weekend crowds are about so bear in mind it may become tracked earlier than normal. The resort is reporting 15cm of new snowfall on lower slopes and 20cm up top. Yesterday was a great day on the mountain. After Friday's massive falls the snowpack had compacted which allowed easier access in many areas. It was a blue sky early, however by lunch time clouds and snow had moved in once again to the delight of many. After a bit of a period in early January, snowfalls have really picked up in intensity and frequency. The forecast looks very interesting. At the moment very heavy snowfalls look possible around the 25th-26th with an intense low developing over Hokkaido and moving east into the Pacific. This should deliver strong and cold NW winds off the tail end of the system. Still a while out, let's hope it delivers! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Epic conditions this morning are only improving now with consistent heavy snowfalls and 50cm of new snow overnight up until now. And that's down low on the mountain as well. After a bit of a snow drought, everyone was keen to get up for first lifts this morning and those who did certainly scored! It was an interesting morning yesterday. The warm conditions gave way to a cold front which moved over the region in the afternoon. Since then the snow has been dumping non-stop which has seen a major improvement to the piste courses, although off-piste still needs a little more. The forecast suggests cold conditions will remain over the next couple of days and snow will continue tomorrow before a return to clear weather on the weekend. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 183cm Weather overview Cloud, fog, blizzard Wind Moderate+ Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted on Wednesday 26th December 2012 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After last seasons epic snow falls we were half hoping we would not get just as much snow this year. Well maybe not. Waking up this morning to blizzard-like conditions and snow dumping hard from the heavens looks like the shovels will be working hard again this season. After a beautiful Christmas day on the slopes yesterday the reality of winter is back today with heavy snow and cold temperatures. There should be some very fine powder conditions again up for grabs with very few crowds around still. The outlook is for a bit of sunshine over the next few days from tomorrow and then more snow hitting Sunday night. So, awesome conditions up here at the moment hope you can enjoy it before the New Years hoards arrive in a few days time.
