Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 302cm Posted on Friday 31st January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Strong winds this morning... and lots of the mountain is closed due to those conditions at the moment meaning a bit of congestion on the base lifts open. Though I think that lots of people might write the day off and spend it soaking in an onsen as it's a bit wild at the moment out there. The sun should be shining tomorrow morning, but as in many other regions it's going to warm up for Sunday and there's a chance of rain even up here. Back to winter from Tuesday, according to the forecast. Have a good weekend and Happy Chinese New Year to friends visiting from overseas. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 300cm Posted on Wednesday 29th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . A good new amount of snow to report this morning from here in Zao. 20cm or so I would say, which hopefully means something more than that on the mountain. (Of course, officially they have only added 5cm, but...!) There's a wind with us still today meaning that there's some windblown areas and more (or less) depending on where you are. Care needed. For the moment it's just cloudy but might we see some sun later on? Looks like more decent snow later on tomorrow into Friday after a milder day during the dayime. Temperatures a bit up and down at the moment as if we can't decide where to go. What we want really is consistent low and consistent snowfall. Please. Thank you! I didn't mean that "no new snow" was a good thing, just that the weather was very fine and that it was a feel good day out and about. And it was that. We're back to grey and cloudy this morning though but I do have 10cm of fresh snowfall to report. Which is obviously a good thing! Keeping cold down to -7 degrees earlier on and not much above that now and light snow falling. Tomorrow and Saturday like many areas of Japan are probably going to be milder and we should start the day off with sunny skies. There might even be some rain down in the village around Saturday.
