The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . About 15cm of fresh snowfall outside my place here in Shiga Kogen this morning. There's snow on the roads and limited visibility. 14 of the 19 areas of Shiga Kogen are now open with Shibutoge and Ichinose Yamanokami joining the party. The whole of Shiga Kogen is by no means fully open yet along with all of the connecting courses, but it feels like we are on the way to getting there. The more snow the better, of course. But if you are out there remember that it's still not deep and there's still bushes and things sticking up out of the snow. Care is needed especially on a day like today when visibility is very limited. Snowfall is forecast to continue for today along with some strong winds at times. Tomorrow might start off with clearer skies, but more snow is forecast to be falling by tomorrow night and into Tuesday. It's cold today with the wind making it feel even colder. Face masks recommended! It should be fun out there today though. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. It is snowing, though right now as I type this there's even a bit of sun coming through the mostly cloudy skies. Snow to report this morning. Certainly not as much as I wanted to be able to report - around 5cm - but we'll take it. And the forecast is still looking good for some decent snowfall going into tonight and through into tomorrow. Maruike and Giant are now part open and with more snow arriving expect more areas, courses and lifts to follow. We could just do with one significant snowfall to really get things going. I seem to recall saying that before now. Might tonight deliver the goods? I'll let you know tomorrow morning. The following resort areas of Shiga Kogen are part open. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning and a very merry Christmas to all readers of Shiga Kogen Now and SnowJapan. It is a white Christmas. Not quite as white as we might have liked of course, but I do have a few cm of snow to report this morning - and the forecast is good for the next few days at least. It was quite mild overnight actually (for Shiga Kogen of course!) but from early dawn that snow has been falling and fingers crossed it will continue as it is likely that it will get colder during the day today. Rumours of Nishitateyama opening their Number 2 triple lift this morning, though other than that things seem to be the same as yesterday. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Just a dusting really since my report yesterday here in Shiga Kogen. It is a national holiday here in Japan today and resorts simply want to - and need to - be open. There's a bit of news on that front with the Bunadaira, Ichinose Diamond and Okushiga Kogen areas part opening and a few more lifts moving at resorts that have already been open. It's actually getting difficult keeping track of the details now - a heavy snowfall to allow everything to be open will be such a big help to all of us! More might be open today but it's all still limited with not enough snow so do keep that in mind. Hopefully that will all change soon... this weekend? The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I have some snow to report. 12cm of it as well and resorts are reporting 10-15cm of snow. It's rather wet and heavy - not 'premium Shiga Kogen quality' - but it is snow nevertheless and welcome. Light snow continues to fall now but it will probably stop and clear up to some degree during the day. The forecast is looking exciting for the end of the week and into the weekend. I predict things to really kick into action by the end of the weekend. Lots of snow please! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A very different feel to this morning with clear blue skies and the sun shining brightly. Still remaining very cold though. There has been some new cm of snow since my report yesterday morning but none is expected today. There may be some more falling tomorrow, but more exciting than all of that is what seems to be forecast to be with us come Friday in the coming week. That could be the storm we are looking for. In the meantime while operations definitely remain very limited here, it's a very fine day to be outside and sliding down the mountains. Unconfirmed by these eyes, but I am hearing that Yakebitaiyama have their Number 2 Gondola operating. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Pretty wild blizzard like conditions earlier on this morning. There's fresh snow on the ground - depending on where you are and how much the wind has got hold of it anywhere between 5-20cm. Outside my place there's 14cm. Right now snow is still falling lightly and there's limited visibility out there. It's cold too, feels very wintery. For the first time this season, the Sun Valley are is open this morning and a few more small changes as noted below. We need more snow to really get things kicking off though. After today a clear up in weather conditions is expected for a few days perhaps. The next significant snow event it would seem will be with us just before and over Christmas... The Number 2 pair lift is moving with a 600m run open - it's a mix of artificial and natural snow. It's a cold morning with very light snow lazily falling here in the central part of Shiga Kogen just now. Looks like we can expect clearer skies and some sunshine tomorrow and look to later in the week for the chance of any decent snowfall. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Some snowfall since yesterday, though not a huge amount... not enough to kick things into action this morning. It does look like Kumanoyu will be opening tomorrow though with the help of man-made snow. Right now the sun is shining and it's a mix of cloud and blue sky up there. Snow is on the forecast for today though so perhaps we can expect clouds to move in. Over the coming days I am going to be doing my best to bring to you the latest opening news from around Shiga Kogen - sometimes even if you are here it is actually difficult to get clear information (it can be very frustrating!) and early season things often change very quickly. As such if you do intend to visit Shiga Kogen in this early season, I recommend you contact the places you are staying and the resorts for the very latest. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Welcome back to the Shiga Kogen Now reports for the 2015-2016 season. A bit of snowfall in higher areas of Shiga Kogen the night before last along with the coldest conditions of the season so far - feeling somewhat winter-like (at last). And then some more snow to report this morning - about 3cm or so on the ground actually. Still, it is not as cold as we would like it to be and the snow is not exactly dry powder but of course good to see a thin layer of white around us now. It's around 2 degrees now as we approach 10am and the sun has appeared from behind the clearing clouds. Clouds back by tonight though and snowfall expected again. Just how much remains to be seen of course. The Kumanoyu area has been busy trying to supplement the small amounts of natural snow with machine-made snow, but it's unclear if things might be able to happen for this weekend. Come on snow... we're waiting! Apart from the chance of a bit of rain tomorrow and more cloud, we're hoping for more like today over the coming weekend. The section of Route 292 that connects Shiga Kogen with Gunma Prefecture opens tomorrow morning (Friday 24th) with - if I am not mistaken - a bit of a ceremony planned at 10am. After that, you can drive through between Shiga Kogen and Kusatsu in Gunma. Ichinose Diamond: The Diamond quad lift will be open from April 25th until May 6th. Ichinose Family: The Ichinose Quad and Ichinose Number 2B pair lifts will be open daily until May 6th. Takamagahara Mammoth: The Takamagahara Quad will be open on from April 25th until May 6th. Okushiga Kogen: The Okushiga Number 4 pair lift will be open from April 25th until May 6th. The Okushiga Number 2 pair lift and Okushiga Number 3 pair lift and Gondola will all be open daily until May 6th. Golden Week is now over as most people go back to work today after the holidays, and we are now left with just a limited selection of areas open - part of Okushiga Kogen, Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama-Shibutoge. More details below. Some cloud around this morning but blue skies and the sun is out - the fine weather we experienced over Golden Week continues... with the snow melting away quickly, nature is taking hold with lots of plants and flower buds appearing. We might get a bit of rain before the weekend but fine conditions are expected on Saturday and Sunday.
