The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It has turned colder again and we have a nice new layer of snow. Early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 10cm, but by now there will be more than that. More lifts open now, though looking at the official information on the website gives me a headache. I know all the different places are run by different people/organisations, but there must surely be a clearer way to sum things up. OK that mini-sigh aside, pretty much all of the terrain from Okushiga Kogen through Ichinose Family and Takamagahara is now available. Sun Valley and Maruike are now open, but there are some parts not yet open between there and Higashidateyama. And Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama is almost all open. With more snow due through tomorrow, I would expect the remaining placed to be open by Saturday. But that is me guessing. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. Another 20cm of snow being reported by Yakebitaiyama early morning and indeed another layer of fresh to enjoy today. A large part of Shiga Kogen is now open, though a few areas are still waiting for some reason, including Terakoya, Giant and Hasuike. Come on guys, I think we have enough snow now, surely?! Anyway, tomorrow the sun is expected at least for part of the day and by Friday we should have more incoming snowfall. And there is going to be more than that by now! I'm not seeing that much, but we can be happy in the knowledge that there has been a lot of snow across the mountains, with more to come. To think that this time last year ski areas were worried they might not be open for New Year! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Snow, snow, snow! Lots of it this morning. Early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 35cm of fresh and that is what I am recording today, too, as of 9am. (Unfortunately, this season (so far), Kumanoyu is not reporting a snowfall number like it used to. Hopefully they might get back doing that...) Anyhow, lots of lovely fresh snowfall around, but some windy conditions too and limited visibility this morning. Some lifts might be affected by the weather conditions. It might not let up (for any prolonged period) until Tuesday, so it seems reasonable to expect some big numbers. Still a few individual areas not yet open but perhaps they can by Wednesday, which happens to be Christmas Day. What a way to be celebrating it! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. And what a fine morning it is, too. The snow clouds have faded away and while it is generally cloudy still, there is some moody sunlight shining through (though that may be temporary). We might get more of that into tomorrow, but more snow is Yakebitaiyama is reporting 20cm of snowfall since yesterday. I'm guessing there's going to be more than that in places. Conditions are really good and I would guess that the ski areas that plan to open at the weekend will be able to do so. There will surely be quite a few more lifts and runs open come Saturday. All this almost erases the memories of this time last year and the really late start some places had. (Check the archives to re-live it...) Many more plan to open from next weekend and with the snowfall we should get this weekend and into next weekend, I think we can feel positive about the chances of that happening. Monday and Tuesday currently forecast to be clearer with some sunshine. It should keep pretty cold too, which is great to see. That means you can get to the base of Shibutoge, too. A fine morning and it will be warming up too. Hopefully we will have some fairly nice weather over Golden Week, though some forecasts show the chance of some light rain at times. Ski area planned closing dates Below are the planned closing dates of ski areas in Shiga Kogen. In the late season, ski areas often scale back operations and/or may be closed on weekdays or on certain days. A bit windy, too. Just two ski lifts are still operating in Shiga Kogen: the Yokoteyama Number 4 pair and the Shibutoge pair lift. Open from 7:30am until 3:00pm. They will keep going for basically as long as they are able to!
