The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It was snowing for pretty much all of yesterday - though at times it must be a said a rather wet kind of snow down here in town areas. Up top this morning Kagura are reporting up to 30cm of new snow since yesterday and other resorts around the town area are saying 10-15cm or so. This morning we start off with cloudy skies, a current temperature of -2C in Yuzawa and just a light wind. A few small breaks in the cloud here and there but forecast says light snow and cloud for the day. And that from tonight we'll get more snow, with snow likely to be falling through the coming weekend. Today is going to be quite mild but from tomorrow it should get colder again and that will last through until Tuesday when we can expect some sun and warmer conditions. For now though especially if we get that further top up of snow tonight it should be really nice conditions for the weekend. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Light snow yesterday, but it started to really change in the evening as it started to get dark. About 5cm of snow had built up on my car in about 90 minutes yesterday evening and this morning there's probably around 30cm of new snow around town. Resorts around town are reporting some nice new numbers as well. The headline as often is the case being Kagura who are boasting 50-60cm of new snow. Other resorts in town are seeing jumps in snow depth numbers of up to 40cm. So it's safe to say that there's a good thick new layer of snow out on the slopes this morning. Limited visibility especially as you get higher up the mountains, but not too bad at resorts around town. The main Route 17 has a layer of snow on it as traffic moves at a fairly slow pace and the snow moving machines get to work. It is still snowing now and remaining cold, currently about -4 degrees and it'll probably stay around that level for the day. Snow might ease off later, and tomorrow may even start with clearer skies, but another cold front is due to deliver more snow tomorrow and snow is expected to be falling over Saturday and Sunday as well. A snowy and cold weekend is on the way. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . So light snow it was yesterday and didn't really translate into new snow in town, perhaps a slight covering on the slopes. Kagura reported up to 5cm. Interesting morning. When I got up we had some clearer and sunny skies up there, it has clouded over somewhat since then and taking on a more overcast feel. But still, it's bright for the moment and all is calm. The forecast insists that we will get some snow today though and possibly even some heavy snow conditions over the next few days. In fact, if the forecast is right we should be seeing a lot of snow right through the weekend and into next week. Should be great if that happens. Will obviously have done some damage to the snow conditions, but happily we are due a topup. It is snowing this morning, though light snow at the moment. The forecast is looking good though for tomorrow and then before the weekend as well with some potentially heavy snowfall due. Could it be one of our epic snowstorms? That would be just the ticket. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Clearer and sunny conditions is what we ended up with as well yesterday. By late morning the snow had stopped and the clouds cleared. It didn't end up a bluebird type day with a fair bit of cloud hanging around but generally bright and sunny. Busy out on the popular slopes as well. This morning the snow is, or should I say was, back. It is a mild morning - around 0 degrees now - and set to get a bit warmer. I was going to be writing that there was a chance of sleet/rain, but unfortunately it has started to happen. My colleague just to the north in Minamiuonuma is reporting heavy rain and rather wet conditions there now. The good news is that from tomorrow it will get colder once again and we have consistent snowfall lined up over the coming week. Just out of interest, I see GALA Yuzawa today brought their snow depth number up to 400cm... The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It's just a cloudy start to the day in Yuzawa and darker than how yesterday started off. If the local forecast is to be believed, snow is imminent and a decent amount of snow is promised in the coming 24+ hours... it should be snowing through tomorrow before easing off by Sunday. It's about +2 degrees at the moment and so the mild conditions continue but it should get colder as the day goes on. Strong winds are likely tomorrow, so keep that in mind if you plan to go high - there's a good chance Kagura will be affected. Less chance of that happening on Sunday so if you have a choice of the two days that might be the best bet. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Calmer this morning and just generally cloudy and overcast at the moment. It is bright and perhaps there's a chance of us getting some blue skies above later on. Temperature is currently hovering around 0 degrees and it does feel pretty mild. Almost spring-like, dare I say it. Hopefully that won't last for long and tomorrow we should be back to snow later on (after a mild start to the day) and overnight into Saturday it is looking like there's a good chance of decent snowfall as well, so conditions on Saturday should be fresh and hopefully deep again. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . As I write this report I can hear really noisy wind blowing about outside. Wasn't like that just a short while ago. Though from early on winds have been affecting Kagura with the Tashiro area closed this morning and Kagura only open from the Mitsumata Ropeway to the main quad. The Dragondola connecting Naeba with Tashiro is closed and a few of the upper lifts at Naeba also seem to be affected. Other than that though, at the moment, resorts seem to all be open as normal. Just a bit of new snow since yesterday, 5cm or so. Yesterday was a generally fine day in the area, somewhat overcast but bright and the snow conditions were very good by all accounts. Cloud and possible light snow forecast for the day before clearing up by tomorrow. For the moment it's just cloudy and actually quite mild, hovering around 0 degrees. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . The snow continued to fall from the skies yesterday and really quite heavily at times. Felt good to see it all coming down and there was probably 30cm or so during the day. I know I had to move that much off the top of the car total in two goes yesterday as it quickly built up. That's what we like to see! You'll notice lots of the resorts adding a big chunk of new snow to their numbers below over the last few days too. This morning weather conditions have calmed down. The forecast is cloudy for the day but at the moment the sun is out and shining down on us and a kind of blue but overcast look to the sky. Could turn out to be a fine one. The snow should definitely be fine though. The snow I moved off the car last night was very light and the people staying on for this morning will be rewarded with some great conditions. Yesterday the snow conditions were excellent as well, though less visibility. Today should be similar conditions, better views and fewer people. Back to snow late tonight followed by clearer weather on Thursday. Yesterday a few friends of mine who live in the Niigata city area were telling me of the chaos that 'heavy snow' was causing up there - all while it was just snowing very lightly here in this part of the Prefecture. Of course they have a different idea of what heave snow is, for them 10cm is heavy snow. It needs to be at least 30cm for us Snow Country folk to define it as heavy snow! But it does seem that people to the north and in the plains once again got more snow than usual, while we were missing out. Still snowing up there this morning I hear... But anyway... we also got our snow overnight, I'm happy to report. I'd say... about 20+cm. Resorts also reporting between 15cm and 30cm with the most being reported by Kagura (as is so often the case of course). So a decent layer of new snow and what's more it is continuing to snow now as I am writing the report. If it carries on like this we should be able to report some more decent numbers tomorrow morning. The only downside is that visibility is generally very poor on the slopes this morning and there's a moderate wind at times. Potentially stronger winds later on in the day. Tomorrow we might get to see the sun and it is forecast to be much clearer. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It's a bright morning in Yuzawa. The sun has been winning the battle with the clouds, but lots of (cloud) shadows being cast down on the slopes around town, making for some dramatic scenery. I feel that more cloud has been gathering though and snow is actually forecast for the region during the day today and into tomorrow. For now though, no new snow to report. It's about -3 degrees now with a high of around 0 forecast at town level. It is another busy morning on the snow with the popular resorts seeing lots of people out early to try and catch the snow at it's best. With tomorrow being a national holiday here in Japan, it'll definitely be busier than a normal weekday as people take advantage of the long weekend but likely less than today, especially from lunchtime onwards. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . There was some decent snowfall yesterday and overnight on the mountains with Kagura telling us they got 30-40cm of fresh snow since yesterday. Today it has been snowing on and off all day in town. Not a huge amount of fresh to report this late afternoon and snow is holding off at the moment. It's about -3 degrees right now - should get colder overnight and we are due more snow tomorrow. The local Niigata forecast tell us to expect up to 10cm of snowfall between now and 9am tomorrow morning.
