It has been a rather cloudy beginning to the day today, though in the last hour or so has become brighter and the sun is even shining through at the moment. Perhaps it will turn out fine, though local forecasts have rain penciled in for this afternoon at town level, though hopefully that might be snow at higher elevations. It's has been a fairly chilly morning and a high of around 6 degrees is forecast, and similar for tomorrow. After that Tuesday will probably see rain and then clearer conditions for the rest of the week. Today is the last day of the season for Ludens Yuzawa and the Nunoba are of Yuzawa Kogen in Yuzawa. That's what we have confirmed anyway, with a few resorts seemingly keeping their closing plans secret even at this stage! To the north in Minamiuonuma, today is the last day for Mt Granview, Chateaux Shiozawa, daily operations at Maiko Snow Resort (though they will be opening for the following two weekends), Muikamachi Ski Resort and Muikamachi Hakkaisan. A dusting of snow on some higher mountains areas overnight, though none down to town level and as we approach 10am it is just cloudy here in Yuzawa after a spell of sleet and light snow falling. The local forecast still insists that we might be seeing the sun later on this afternoon so perhaps it is going to clear up. For now though upper slopes at lots of the resorts around town are covered in cloud with fairly poor visibility. Tomorrow it's cloud and a chance of rain. Last day of the season for a few of the small resorts around Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma tomorrow including Hakkaisan, Muikamachi Ski Resort, Mt Granview and Chateaux Shiozawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It's a bit of a damp and wet morning here in Yuzawa. Very light rain has been falling since earlier on - nothing major - and it doesn't seem to be able to decide to continue or not. Resorts around town almost all seem to be reporting 'cloud'.... hmmmm! Lots of fog around this morning too. Hopefully it will completely clear up by afternoon which is what the forecast says will happen. Yesterday was very warm. Up to between 15 and 20 degrees and parts of Niigata to the north got to over 20 degrees. Happily it's cooler this morning and about 5 degrees now. Some of the runs low down by town are looking rather... dirty. Not that pure white fluff that we all love. But, you can still slide down it! Tomorrow the forecast is for cloud and perhaps some sun. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday I said that today should be warmer. And warmer it most certainly is. Outside the thermometer now says 10 degrees, and the forecast says a high of about 16 degrees at town level. We're all set to see it cool off a bit again though from tomorrow, but there doesn't look like much chance of much (any?) snow in the coming week with more of a chance of rain at times than snow. So is that our lot? The optimist in me holds out for one or two more refreshes, though the realist... Anyway yes a cloudy morning though some patches of blue sky on show behind the clouds. Tomorrow won't be as warm as today and mostly cloudy conditions again, with a chance of rain/snow showers in the morning according to the latest local forecast. In a bit of resort news it seems that Maiko Snow Resort, while still open until 31st March (and then two more weekends only), has the Gondola closed. This doesn't affect the runs open as you can still get up to the back bowl using the two quad lifts... The snow did ease off fairly quickly yesterday leaving us with a cloudy afternoon and clear evening - here in Minamiuonuma to the north of Yuzawa anyway. This morning is quite bright but cloudy and overcast. Some blue sky here and there. Right now about 5 degrees in Yuzawa town and a high of just over 10 forecast. Tomorrow should be a bit warmer and it seems we may get rained on before my report tomorrow morning. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . In the report yesterday we mentioned rain/sleet/wet snow. Well, none of those apparently happened as we are all dry this morning. It is a cloudy morning in Yuzawa. At the moment around +4 degrees in town and it isn't forecast to warm up so much today. Once again the forecast tells us a chance of rain/sleet/snow today but perhaps there's more chance of it happening this time. A nice new layer of snowfall would be very nice. Today and tomorrow to remain fairly cold, with warmer conditions due to return from Wednesday. The '3 mountain' joint ticket and connection for Yuzawa Kogen, Gala Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama is now closed for the season. At resorts around town as well there are various spring ski discount lift tickets on offer, varying by resort so good to check with each one. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . There are some nice blue skies over Yuzawa and the Minamiuonuma valley this morning. Wispy white clouds as well - and more appearing as the morning has moved on - but the sun is out and it's a nice warm, spring morning. Spring conditions out there, the snow is pretty heavy (on the ground, not falling!) and sticky and some people who suffer from hayfever can be seen battling the pollen! It is about 10 degrees now. Tomorrow will be cloudier and a bit cooler. Later on in the evening we might see rain/sleet/wet snow into Tuesday. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday the snow was falling during the morning but eased off and by early afternoon it has started to clear up - ended up a fine sunny afternoon. Cold last night down to -5C and it is a cold start to the day today as well, though it is warming up fast with a high of around 10 degrees likely today. Only a slight wind and clear skies. The sun is out and it's a great day to be outside. Tomorrow is not going to warm up as much and the local forecast is for generally cloudy conditions. If you want sun over the weekend, Sunday is the better bet. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday evening was nice and clear until later on when it started to rain heavily. But the brilliant news this morning is that it is snowing and there's over 5cm of fresh snow in Yuzawa and up to 10cm on the slopes. It's still snowing - and actually coming down quite nicely at the moment - so while it's forecast to not last long, we can just hope for as much as possible before then! Great to see snow falling again though and the accompanying colder temperatures. So yes the forecast says this afternoon it'll just be cloudy, but it will stay fairly cold all day. Right now it's around 0 degrees. Forecast for tomorrow is clear and sunny conditions and temps to rise up back to around 10 degrees in the daytime, so let's enjoy this return of winter while it lasts! Oh yes, strong winds are preventing the Tashiro part of Kagura from opening today. So limited operations at Kagura. Other resorts seem unaffected and open as normal. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . 10 degrees this morning at 10am on another warm and very spring like morning in Yuzawa. It's a generally fine morning with overcast-looking blue skies over Yuzawa, more cloudy to the north in Minamiuonuma. We're actually hoping that we might get a bit of snow overnight tonight into tomorrow as things still forecast to get colder for a short while. Looking forward to hopefully bringing you that news tomorrow morning. Slopes around town busier than usual for a Wednesday as today is a national holiday, but generally it doesn't look 'crowded' out there at all. By the way, some kind of face mask is recommended for those of you suffering from hayfever at the moment! It did rain yesterday and unfortunately it has been raining early this morning as well, though it looks like it will ease off and leave us with a fine day, perhaps sunny. Not much of a wind as well this morning which is a contrast to the gusty conditions we had yesterday. Lots of cloud around and upper areas covered in cloud. Resorts that were affected by the wind yesterday are back open and operating as normal this morning. Colder conditions possible around Thursday?
