  • Niseko Now: Tuesday 27th January 2026

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 660cm We enjoyed another day of fresh snow delivery yesterday and this morning I can add another 16cm. Don't get bored of this, now. It can't last forever! All the more reason why we should make the most of it and... kansha. Should be another day of very fine conditions on the mountain, with hopefully not much wind. Visibility seems fine and is fairly good around base and quite bright, but the Hirafu webcam higher up shows much more limited. ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base: -9℃, 15cm snowfall overnight. Moiwa 800m: -11.0℃, snowdrift development stabilised, 20cm new snow. Annupuri 1100m: -12.5℃, data n/a. Village 1000m: -12.3℃, WNW2.1m/s, calm. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -11.8℃, SSW1.9m/s, 10cm snowfall overnight, calm. Hanazono 800m: -10.4℃, SSW3.3m/s, 20cm snowfall. Sea of Japan Benkei cape S4m/s, Kamui cape W5m/s, 10137hPa, 1.0m waves. Across the entire low-pressure system, isobars are widely spread, resulting in calm conditions both at sea and in the mountains. Snowfall consists of light, crystal snow totaling 10-20 cm by morning. Wind-generated snow slabs from previous days are consolidated and stabilised beneath the new snow, sintered like marble, with no weak-line fractures. Based on observations and evaluation of all data, the overall avalanche risk is low. Light slough (powder snow avalanche) is likely on open, steep slopes above the tree line. Stay clear of the slope base as this can trigger surface avalanches. All peak gates will open. Follow the patrol’s instructions. Group leaders bear significant responsibility. Do not casually take beginners to challenging slopes such as back bowls. There is no such thing as a safe winter mountain. Are you prepared for self-rescue? The day before yesterday, Team Leader Kanazawa of the Hirafu Patrol fractured his tibia during work. We wish him a speedy recovery. The snow is fantastic. Keep your avalanche beacon turned on. Be alert for sudden weather changes. Have a good day. ------------------------------------ The below snow depth and snowfall numbers are manually checked each morning from official sources. The 'change since yesterday' data is manually calculated each morning by me. Lift information is the planned operations for the day at the time of writing. ------------------ Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 14cm Base: 18cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 288cm (-3cm change since yesterday) Base: 203cm (+6cm change since yesterday) Planned lift operations: 4 of 4 lifts Gondola until 7:00pm ------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 20cm Base: 20cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 380cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 160cm (no change since yesterday) Planned lift operations: 9 of 9 lifts Ace Gondola, Ace Family quad, King Gondola and King Holiday pair until 7:00pm ------------------ Niseko Village Ski Resort Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 290cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 200cm (no change since yesterday) Planned lift operations: 7 of 8 lifts (not Country Road) Upper Village Gondola, Village Express and Banzai Chair until 7:00pm ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 20cm Base: 20cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 250cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 180cm (no change since yesterday) Planned lift operations: 6 of 6 lifts Jumbo Number 1 quad until 7:30pm ------------------ Niseko Moiwa Ski Resort Planned lift operations: 3 of 3 lifts Niseko Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Tuesday 27th January 2026 Total snowfall at base so far 660cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 56 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 36cm (on 12th January) November 2025 snowfall 29cm reported on 7 days December 2025 snowfall 189cm reported on 23 days January 2026 snowfall 442cm reported on 26 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far and more like the kind of temperatures we expect in early May. It was up to around 26 degrees in Yuzawa, at town level, and we are likely to see temps rising to about 25 today as well. It stayed fairly mild overnight, unlike the previous night when it was much colder, so there have been some big swings in the temperatures over the last few days. Tomorrow the forecast is for cooler weather - and rain too. Clearer on Sunday. The Mitsumata area of Kagura remains skiable for the weekend so no need for any kind of shuttle bus up there yet. It will be a busy weekend at Kagura. If you plan to make your way up there, an early start is recommended! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Yuzawa. Yesterday was a fine morning at least as things did cloud over and by evening it was raining, and it's still raining this morning though will hopefully clear up. After the warmth of yesterday as well it's rather cold this morning and the forecast is telling us that it probably won't warm up over 8 degrees today. Very odd weather recently - it was on the tv this morning that in some regions of Japan it was close to 30 degrees, while it was still snowing up in some parts of Hokkaido! Hopefully we'll see the sun and it will warm up a bit more tomorrow. So from today, it's just Kagura via Mitsumata that remains open. We have posted the below information on the Naeba Now page, but I'll put it on here as well: Mitsumata Ropeway 8am until 5pm (7:30am start on Saturdays and holidays) Mitsumata Number 1 quad 8am until 4:30am (7:30am start on Saturdays and holidays) Mitsumata Number 2 Romance lift 9am until 4:30pm (8:30am start on Saturdays and holidays) Mitsumata Number 3 Romance lift Operating only on Saturdays and holidays when busy conditions Kagura Gondola 8:15am until 4pm (7:45am start on Saturdays and holidays) Kagura Number 1 quad 8:30am until 4pm (8am start on Saturdays and holidays) Kagura Number 1 pair 9am until 4pm on Saturdays and holidays Kagura Number 3 pair Operating only on Saturdays and holidays when busy conditions Yuzawa Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Tuesday 7th May 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 762cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 60 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 45cm (10th December) November 2012 snowfall 8cm reported on 3 days December 2012 snowfall 217cm reported on 15 days January 2013 snowfall 254cm reported on 19 days February 2013 snowfall 238cm reported on 16 days March 2013 snowfall 42cm reported on 6 days April 2013 snowfall 3cm reported on 1 day May 2013 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It was raining quite heavily last night and... it still is. A rather wet morning here in Yuzawa. But! It's still keeping cold and I see that Kagura have reported 2cm of fresh snowfall overnight. The forecast for the day up there is light rain/snow, hopefully the latter. Sleet is being reported by GALA Yuzawa as well this morning. One thing's for sure and that is it doesn't feel like normal weather for early May. Tomorrow should be more settled and a bit warmer and more of the same through Monday. Kandatsu Kogen were initially hoping to open until 6th May for the last 4 days of the Golden Week period but they have not been able to remain open with the snow disappearing... so no more Kandatsu this season. We are left with Kagura and GALA Yuzawa for the next four days until Monday, after which it will be just Kagura via Mitsumata remaining open. We went all day without any serious rain yesterday which was good, it was always a thread according to the forecast. Same today for today and we have started the day with rain falling here in town. (Is it actually snowing on the top areas of Kagura? Might be borderline. Unconfirmed). Anyway temperatures are keeping under 10 degrees. Cloud and fog higher up and so poor visibility at the resort areas open it seems. Keeping colder tomorrow as well and also very probably rain. Just cloudy to start with today here, though rain is likely especially this morning. The forecast says stronger winds later on as well, but for now it's fairly calm in town and by the looks of things on the mountain too. After the busy weekend, things should be less so today. The resort themselves are saying that there was at times a 2 hour wait for the Ropeway! And Kagura resort is also saying that yesterday saw the biggest crowds of the season. It was all over the place. And if you were up at Kagura, you were getting snowed on after being rained on in the car park down at base. The resort said that there was up to 10cm of fresh snow up there. A very nice surprise. It was raining lightly earlier on here in town, but has since cleared and dried up. Lots of cloud around but the sun appearing at times as well mid morning with the forecast for more of that later this afternoon and temperatures rising to around 14 degrees in town. It has been quite busy at the resorts that are open this weekend as we enter Golden Week. Just over one week left for the Tashiro Ropeway and that part of Kagura resort.
