  • Yuzawa Now: Friday 14th March 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 1220cm Posted on Friday 14th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We had a largely cloudy day yesterday with some spots of precipitation at times in the afternoon. Nothing major. Today is set to be largely clear for most of the day and we should get lots of sun, though it doesn't look like it should be as warm as some recent days. There'll probably be some hard slopes out there this morning but the sun should soften conditions up fairly quickly. Maybe some more sun tomorrow, but the weather is about to make another change... starting to get a bit colder with an increased chance of snow (particularly at higher elevations). Forecasts are varied as to exactly what to expect. At this stage of the season it is probably best to just think of any layers of fresh snow as an exciting bonus, and at the same time hope that rain is kept to a minimum and it doesn't warm up too much. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Friday 14th March 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 29th March 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this seas 1239cm Posted on Saturday 29th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After a week or so with no fresh snow, we had been wondering if we might get some fresh snow this weekend... and we have! Earlier on, Kagura ski area reported 5cm (though not specifying where that is being measured) and Maiko Snow Resort 3cm. There is 2-3cm of new snowfall to add to this report (just under 3cm at our own measuring point). It is just above -1C. This snow will probably ease off by lunchtime and we may even get some clearer skies later in the day. But there's a fair chance of more snow tomorrow! There is a one-off night skiing opening at GALA Yuzawa tonight with the main Entertainment run scheduled to be open from 5:30pm until 8:00pm. • Yuzawa Now: Thursday 20th March 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this seas 1236cm Posted on Thursday 20th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It is a national holiday and, from the looks of things, a lot of people have come to spend the day skiing - some ski areas appear to be particularly busy this morning! Easy to understand why, though, with the fresh snow we got yesterday and the beautiful weather forecast for today. And indeed it is a beautiful morning with blue skies, sunshine and just a little cloud. (It might get more cloudy later on). As of 10:30am it is apparently just over 3C, but it feels a bit more than that. There is a lot of sun on the weekly forecast from now, with temperatures looking more spring like after these last few days of mini-winter. Tomorrow is not a national holiday, but no doubt some folks will have taken it as a holiday to get a long weekend in... Ski area news: The Yuzawa Snow Link joint lift ticket (valid at Yuzawa Kogen, GALA Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama) will be available through Sunday 23rd March, so we are in last few days to enjoy that connection. The individual ski areas will, of course, remain open beyond then. Check the dates below. Having said that, the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa usually closes on the same day as Yuzawa Snow Link, so expect that to also close end of Sunday. It seems a real shame with all the lovely snow they still have over there! GALA Yuzawa have also announced that its main Entertainment course will be open for a special one-off night skiing session on Saturday 29th March (5:30pm until 8:00pm). That will be open to anyone (with a valid ticket, of course). ---------------------------- Ski area information for Thursday 20th March 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 19th March 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this seas 1229cm Posted on Wednesday 19th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Those early clouds and light snow eased off soon after lifts opened and we gradually got clearer skies and sunshine. The fresh snow at higher elevations was pretty good too. There seemed to be 10-15cm or so up at GALA by the side of the prepared runs. It warmed up to around 5.5C in town in the early afternoon. Anyway, we're back to some fresh snow this morning again and it is still snowing. About 3-5cm around town areas, with (I am hearing) much more down towards Naeba, and no doubt at higher elevations too. Maiko Snow Resort appears to be reporting 10cm. Very nice. It is still snowing and expected through the day, along with limited visibility. The top Number 5 lift at Kagura is closed, and with fairly strong winds expected, the Tashiro to Kagura course will also be closed. The last Tashiro Ropeway up will be at 1pm. The messaging from Kagura this morning is... confusing... but this information is believed to be correct. Clearer skies are expected from tomorrow, along with warming temperatures as we head towards the weekend. Tomorrow is a national holiday in Japan (Vernal Equinox Day) and so will very probably busier than a normal weekday, especially with this fresh snow and good forecast. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Wednesday 19th March 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Tuesday 18th March 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this seas 1225cm Posted on Tuesday 18th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Update: Kagura appears to be reporting 70cm (!) of snow over the last few days, and that is the reason why the top Number 5 lift is closed today. (Official snow depth hasn't budged, though!) Maiko Snow Resort was reporting 10cm this morning. The early morning clouds cleared leaving us with a beautiful morning with lots of blue sky and sunshine. Original report: We had some wet snow falling for much of the day yesterday. It was more like rain at times, especially earlier on, and more definitely rain just to the north out in Minamiuonuma. (Though that did actually turn into snow later on). Just under 5cm of snow to add to this report as a result. We can perhaps expect a bit more than that at higher elevations. There has been a lot of cloud early on, but a few patches of blue sky are already starting to appear in places. Indeed, sunshine and clearer skies are expected this morning. Some more snowfall is due tomorrow and that may well be the last snow down to town level this season. Beyond tomorrow, forecasts show a run of clearer and sunny days with warming temperatures once again as we find ourselves in the last ten days of March. All ski areas should be opening as scheduled this morning. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Tuesday 18th March 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 30th March 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this seas 1241cm Posted on Sunday 30th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Perhaps a little surprising, but we have some blue sky and sun early this morning. All forecasts indicate cloud and precipitation later on, so it might not last long. And if we are lucky we might get a little more snow. But it might get windy too. There was a bit more snow since the early report yesterday (2cm added today), but it didn't last long into the morning leaving us with a largely cloudy kind of day. Your reporter was not there, but there was apparently a 'parade of groomers' on show before the night skiing at GALA Yuzawa opened last night. They were grooming the slope at the same time, of course. (I want to drive one of those one day). As I mentioned in a previous report, I do wonder if we might see more night skiing at that ski area in the future, if this one-off was deemed successful. OK so here we are at the last day of the season for various ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma. Today is the last day of operations for the following ski areas: - Iwappara (Yuzawa) - Maiko Snow Resort (Minamiuonuma) - Muikamachi Hakkaisan (Minamiuonuma) - Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort (Yuzawa) Tomorrow will be the last day of operations for the following ski areas: - Muica Snow Resort (Minamiuonuma) - Yuzawa Park (Yuzawa) The list below will be re-organised once they are closed. The top Kagura Number 5 lift was originally scheduled to be open until today, but a while back the ski area announced that it was possibly going to be extended. Tried to find more details on the official site, but without success. Perhaps it is a secret. Please note that the report tomorrow might only appear around lunchtime. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Sunday 30th March 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Kagura is reporting 5cm of fresh snowfall since yesterday. We did get some snow falling in town yesterday (and this morning) but it didn't really amount to much... the roads never got covered, but there has been just under 2cm at our the measuring point since yesterday and a little on top of the car. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 4th April 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 1243cm Posted on Friday 4th April 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Well, the grey and rather miserable weather down in town continues this morning. Kagura is this morning reporting 3cm of snow up top and it looks like there might have been a slight dusting of snow on the top of the quad lift building at GALA (photo below). Happily, the rain in town is due to ease off by lunchtime and we should be getting some relief from tomorrow. The forecast clearer skies and sunshine (for tomorrow) will be very welcome, and local forecasts predict that to be the dominant weather until at least mid-week. It will be getting warmer too, though not drastically so. It has been strangely cold for early April so far. (That would be great if we were getting snowed on, not so great when it is raining). Sunday is the last day of the ski season for the following ski areas: Ishiuchi Maruyama (Minamiuonuma) Joetsu Kokusai (Minamiuonuma) Naeba (Yuzawa) Nakazato Snow Wood (Yuzawa) NASPA Ski Garden (Yuzawa) Yuzawa Kogen (Yuzawa) From Monday, just three ski areas will be open: GALA Yuzawa Kagura Kandatsu Snow Resort ---------------------------- Ski area information for Friday 4th April 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Monday 14th April 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 1243cm Posted on Monday 14th April 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. I'm not sure how windy it was yesterday, but the wind was certainly noisy at times. This morning is starting off wet and rainy but it shouldn't be lasting too long and we are due some clearer skies and sun later on in the day. From today just two ski areas in Yuzawa remain open - GALA Yuzawa and Kagura. At GALA, there are four lifts operating (like on weekdays last week), but the Falcon downhill course is now closed. (They did well keeping that open for as long as they did). At Kagura, 12 lifts are operating. The top Number 5 pair is now closed, but the Number 1 pair is open. There's a typo on the official Kagura site at the time of putting this report together that says the temperature is 30C. It will get that hot soon enough in the coming months, but thankfully it is not that hot today! I'm guessing it meant to say 3C. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Monday 14th April 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report.
