Looks like it started this morning as there's not much in terms of new cm to show for it but if it continues like this then things should be good. More snow is forecast for tomorrow and Saturday in particular so it should be a good weekend. Come prepared! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Snow and limited visibility this morning out on the slopes. Not huge amounts from yesterday but we're bracing ourselves (excitedly) for some heavy snowfall later today through tomorrow. The storm may also bring with it strong winds, so need to keep an eye on that and how it might affect lifts around the area. Heavy snow. Sounds good to me. Onegai shimasu. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 482cm Posted on Sunday 16th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It all looks a bit limited in Shiga Kogen this morning. Strong winds, heavy snow and poor visibility have a fair few lifts closed. For those who manage to get here (transportation network problems!), there's not much choice and honestly you would have to be really keen. I think that an onsen is probably a good idea this morning as there's close to zero visibility out there and not nice. The only lifts moving - as far as the official site updates tell me anyway - are a few at Sun Valley, Tannenomori and Yakebitaiyama (though some of that info might not be the latest as they don't seem to update it real time. Can't say we were expecting such a huge storm. Though it has been bringing us lots of new snow which once things have settled should be good to enjoy. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Heavy snow this morning in Shiga Kogen. I was planning in being back there this morning but traffic issues prevent me from getting back so this is from a friend on the phone who just said it was really stormy conditions up there (as it has been down in lower areas as well) and there's a good layer of new snow.... along with some lifts being affected by the conditions. Snow may ease off by Sunday and I will definitely be back up there to see what it's like for myself. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's still snowing here and coming down pretty good too. It's not quite as whiteout conditions as over the weekend, but still visibility is limited and a wind blowing. Much more lifts open as well, though a few are closed as the resorts cope with the snowfall we have had. We appear to be on the tail end of this particular storm though and can expect some clearer skies tomorrow perhaps even sun. If so it will be a great day to be out on the slopes here. Traffic problems and not very pleasant conditions during the weekend aside, in terms of snowfall mid-February has been very kind. I'm looking forward to getting out there to enjoy it. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . This makes for a change! It's sunny over Shiga Kogen... and blue skies! A somewhat overcast blue sky in places but definitely a change from the snowfall and stormy conditions that we have been having since last weekend. I'm sure more than a few people were racing out to first lifts this morning when they looked out the window. So great snow, great weather. Will be a very good day, I think. We might see some light snow tomorrow but apart from that there's quite a lot of clearer conditions to enjoy into next week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . As the snow continues to fall here in Shiga Kogen.... the sun is taking a brief chance to make an appearance. Short lived perhaps, but also perhaps a sign that the current storm is on the way out. (There it goes back behind a cloud and again the snow is falling heavily). There's still some winds about today, though not as much as yesterday. Still, limited visibility out on the slopes. Clearer conditions should be up next, and we all hope of course that is keeps cold. Once the sun comes out it should be great to get out there. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yes, it is snowing still. Again as I write my report it's coming down quite impressively here in the Maruike part of Shiga Kogen. Not a huge amount since yesterday, perhaps 10cm or so, and while the forecasts told us to expect the snow clouds to have stopped doing their thing this morning, it doesn't look like quitting just yet. Not as windy as it has been at the moment though. We are expecting clearer weather soon though. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It has been a cold start to the day here in Shiga Kogen. Snow is falling again which is a contrast to the weather we had yesterday. Quite bright though in some parts of the area with the sun trying to show through thin clouds at times. I was just over at Kumanoyu. Very quiet indeed. Hardly anyone about. It probably goes without saying but if you can get here weekdays rather than much busier weekends you're in for a treat. I know, not possible for many. But I'd go as far as saying worth taking the days off work to get the ski runs to yourself! We are expecting mostly clearer weather for the weekend and into next week too, but it should keep cold for the next few days at least. Planned late season dates for Shiga Kogen resort areas: Please note that the below dates are all subject to change and of course dependant on snow conditions (and there's less snow than usual this season). We'll try to keep this up-to-date with every new report. Takamagahara Mammoth The quad lift plans to be operating until Sunday 8th May (* Saturdays and Sundays only until 28th April). Ichinose Family The Ichinose quad lift plans to be operating until Sunday 8th May. The Ichinose Number 2 pair B lift plans to be operating until Sunday 8th May.
