- Furano Now: Sunday 23rd March 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 498cm Posted on Sunday 23rd March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good morning skiers & boarders, Welcome to the last day of operations for the Kitanomine Zone for this season. Unfortunately, the Gondola is closed due to wind. They tried hard, they really did. The cabins had been deployed, albeit in a less than normal density in case it got windy, and then suddenly the wind picked up and they closed it down--not a hard close; they'll open it later if the wind dies down...which it hasn't yet. Bummer, Dude! The good news is the Furano side is open for business as usual. Still and all, I'd ski the Kitanomine side today as it's the last day, and then you can ski Furano every day starting tomorrow. Oh, and we got some snow. 4 cm at the base, and the resort is reporting 15 cm on top. We need just a few more centimeters of snow if we're going to gonna break 500 cm total at the base this year. Definitely an off-year for Furano in terms of quantity this season. For comparison, here is the snow depth data for the last 5 seasons as of this date. There's usually almost no more snow at the base from this point onward, but on top is a different story. March 2025 -- 498 cm March 2024 -- 788 cm March 2023 -- 609 cm March 2022 -- 700 cm March 2021 -- 644 cm Counting this current season, that averages to 648 cm per season, putting this season is 23% below the recent average. The Furano Zone will continue operations through May 6, gradually closing lower lifts and runs, and transporting customers to the top lifts via the Ropeway. Even though the season is winding down, and spring/summer is around the corner, please continue to... Think Snow. Opening, lift & other notes ** Furano Zone Lift B (aka Furano Quad) is closed for the season due to mechanical failure. New braking mechanism must be fabricated.** Furano Zone: All lifts CLOSED except for Lift C. Wind hold. Will re-open if wind drops. Kitanomine: Gondola CLOSED due to wind. Lifts F, G, & H are open, but access to the Furano Zone is closed. H1 run is open. Regular lifts closing at 4:00 PM Night skiing is closed for the season on both sides Furano Now 2024-2025 season Data as of Sunday 23rd March 2025 Total snowfall at base 498cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 73 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 20cm (1st December) November 2024 snowfall 37cm reported on 6 days December 2024 snowfall 173cm reported on 21 days January 2025 snowfall 138cm reported on 19 days February 2025 snowfall 116cm reported on 18 days March 2025 snowfall 34cm reported on 9 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Furano.
