Very changeable weather conditions continue but it's a happy story this morning... sunny blue skies with Madarao Kogen resort reporting 20-30cm of fresh snow on the mountain. And there is indeed a good 18cm of snow on the car to move once I get this report finished. Conditions should be much improved this morning and the good weather should add to the fun. There's more... heavy snowfall tomorrow? It might just happen. Snow is forecast to start falling again by the end of today, decent snowfall tomorrow, followed by more sun at the end of the week - and then more snow over the weekend. That to me sounds like a great pattern - decent snowfall, sunshine, decent snowfall, sunshine, decent snowfall, sunshine. Yes, let's have some of that! It should be a good morning. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Another 6cm of snow here at base since yesterday and calmer and somewhat clearer conditions as well. Perhaps more cloud around than we expected early morning though it's due to clear up and the sun to be a big part of the day later on. Maybe tomorrow too along with the expected rise in temperatures as well. Rain is still there on the forecast for Saturday with that freezing level rising w-aaa-yyy too high for everyone's liking but it should be quite quickly back to cold and snow come Monday. For now though a very good day in store I think! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Light snow falling from early this morning up here with about 4cm so far with hopefully more building up this morning. Madarao Kogen is reporting 5cm of fresh as of 7am. The snow may continue this morning but will probably stop by this afternoon. After that it's still looking likely that the new snowfall to expect (more than sprinklings anyway) is on Friday. It should be keeping quite cold through the week though so conditions should be keeping pretty decent. If you like a clear sunny day, Thursday is the day to target this week according to the forecasts. February already, can you believe it? Time just goes too fast. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . It has started snowing this morning and snowing good at the moment. It's actually supposed to ease off a bit later on this morning or this afternoon and then heavy snow and perhaps winds are due later in the day and tonight. May the snow be heavy (but light if you know what I mean) and plentiful! I look forward to my report tomorrow. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Light snow falling early this morning here in Madarao though it is expected to be clearer during the day today. We might get some sunshine on us tomorrow (perhaps even today?) but snow clouds are due back over the area by tomorrow night. Hopefully it might be snowing as we wake up on the first day of 2016. Beyond that some clearer skies and slightly warmer conditions are currently on the forecast for the first few days of the new year. We must all concentrate out thoughts on hoping that it keeps on the colder side of things. Have a good new year period wherever you are. Lots of fresh snow around this morning in Madarao as the cold winter feeling continues this morning. More lifts and runs open on the mountain this morning and fresh snow to ride in too. Things are looking very good indeed this morning. (At last, you may say!) Snowfall is due to ease off sometime today and we might enjoy a bit of sunshine tomorrow, though some more snow currently forecast for New Years Eve going into 1st January. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Madarao Open! And it's a lovely morning for it. No new snow to report but the sun is out now and early morning clouds are quickly disappearing. The Number 1 lift at Madarao Kogen is starting it's season this morning with (for now) just the Paradise Course open. Snow cover is acceptable but it's far from 'deep' yet. There may be bushes out there out to trip you up. They are also saying that they are not grooming due to the relative lack of snow. Still. First turns are always fun! Maybe a bit of snow tomorrow but after that it's going to be perhaps Friday before the next proper snowfall.... and it's looking promising! Keep an eye on the forecast. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . I have good news! Madarao Kogen will be opening from tomorrow (Sunday). Some more snow overnight and it has been snowing this morning, though forecast is saying that clearing conditions likely. The resort is reporting 25-35cm of snow out there and so going to go for a part open... They plan to have the Number 1 lift operating with a few courses open for skiing and snowboarding. With only one lift running the lift tickets will be 1000 yen for adults and seniors and 500 yen for children. Remember snow is thin on the ground and the resort themselves are recommending that you don't come with new gear just in case... don't want scratches! Still it will be great to get out on the slopes at last. No official word yet from connecting Tangram Ski Circus. Forecast weather for tomorrow... sun! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . 5-10cm of snow overnight and Madarao have announced that there just isn't enough for a safe opening today. Basically, they'll open as soon as they can which will be after the next delivery of snow. When will that be? If only any of us knew. Right now there's actually some blue sky appearing from behind breaks in the cloud. Everywhere is looking white. Well, apart from those blue clouds. There may be more snow on the way overnight tonight so we'll just have to see how that turns out. Beyond tomorrow there's not a whole lot of snow on the forecasts into next week which is a bit worrying.... I'll update tomorrow with the latest. UPDATE AT 2pm: It is snowing, but difficult to make a decision apparently and Madarao Kogen have said that they will decide whether they can open tomorrow morning at around 7am. It is all going to depend on the snow though they seem to be saying there's up to 30cm now. Tomorrow my report will be later on in the day unfortunately so if you are planning to go to Madarao Kogen tomorrow I recommend you keep an eye on their website early tomorrow morning. --- Original morning report: We have some snowfall this morning and more expected during the day. Enough for the resorts to open as open? Right now, no. But it will depend on how much snow falls today and tonight and Madarao Kogen resort have announced that they will make a decision later on today. No doubt we will be hearing from Tangram Ski Circus as well... I will try to update this page later on today if possible; otherwise the next update will be later tomorrow (reports will be delayed a bit tomorrow). The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning as we fast approach the planned opening date of the season for the Madarao Kogen and Tangram Ski Circus resorts. The big question is... will they be able to? Right now we're back to a mostly snow-less mountain with the last week or so seeing a mix of mild temperatures and rain. Not the best. But best to get those things out of the way before the season I suppose! So to this week. The region is set to enjoy a drop in temperatures and snowfall around mid-week. Thursday looks like it should be the peak of that cold front. Just how much snow falls and if it will be enough for an opening.... well, we'll just have to wait and see.
