  • Yuzawa Now: Friday 26th January 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 19cm Snowfall at base this seas 429cm Posted on Friday 26th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There has been another 19cm since yesterday morning, with over half of that during the day yesterday. The only 'new snowfall' number being reported this morning by a ski area is 20cm by Yuzawa Kogen. The snowfall added to this report means that we have been able to report 92cm of fresh in town over the last three days, which is really great, and there will have been more snow than that are higher elevations. Official snow depth numbers are now looking a bit closer to normal. There's some noticeable snow walls by the side of roads. Ski areas will be happy. People visiting them should be happy too! :) Interesting thing, though: while this is definitely more like the kind of Yuzawa we know and love, it has not really been one of those 'totally full-on and overwhelming mad snow' kind of storms that we have been known to get. But let's leave that conversation for another time. For now, it is time to enjoy all this fresh snow! Unfortunately, it looks like Kagura is going to be closed again today due to wind. The somewhat unclear message seems to be that the Tashiro Area of Kagura is definitely going to be closed for the day, and the other areas are closed... though it is unclear if they might open. [Update: All of Kagura is closed for the day]. Other ski areas are opening, though there might be some slower lifts or delays. (Maiko Snow Resort, in particular, mentioning that possibility). It is snowing lightly this morning and it might continue on and off through the day. It's quite windy out there too with the snow being blown around. There may even be some snow falling into tomorrow too, though some forecasts are hinting at the chance of some clearer skies at times too. Most important thing - even if the sun comes out, let's hope the temps remain low. ---------------------------- Note that due to the snowfall over the last several days there is a JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) avalanche warning out for the Yuzawa area at the moment, in effect until tomorrow. ---------------------------- Kagura ski area is in an apologetic mode about the fact that recently, it has had to be closed or partly closed due to wind and various mechanical/electrical issues with lifts. Enough to have some special offers available this weekend, including a free 'soft drink bar' ticket if you spend more than 1000 yen at Restaurant Kagura or Wadagoya. Perhaps more exciting than that for many is if you buy a full-price one-day ticket (on Saturday or Sunday), they'll give you a voucher that lets you purchase a one-day ticket for just 1,000 yen - valid on any weekday between 1st and 30th April 2024. I think those details are correct. It sounds like they might have been getting some grief. While they can't do much about weather stuff, hopefully, there won't be so many issues during the rest of the season. Anyway, if you are heading up tomorrow or Sunday, you can check at the ski area. With the snow of the last few days, expect it to be busy! ---------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 190cm The Northern Area connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama is available The Southern Area connection with Yuzawa Kogen is available Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth: 160cm The connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Night skiing until 8:00pm Iwappara Official snow depth: 120cm Night skiing until 7:00pm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 170cm (top) Night skiing until 8:30pm Kagura Official snow depth: 180cm (top), 130cm (base) Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 130cm Night skiing until 2:00am (tomorrow morning) Maiko Snow Resort Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): ?cm Official snow depth: 180cm (top), 80cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 260cm (top), 120cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 120cm (top), 70cm (base) Night skiing until 8:30pm See our Naeba Now report NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 145cm Yuzawa Kogen Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): about 20cm Official snow depth: 140cm (top), 70cm (base) The connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 120cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 120cm Yuzawa Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Friday 26th January 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 429cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 23 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 55cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days December 2023 snowfall 137cm reported on 9 days January 2024 snowfall 278cm reported on 12 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 27th January 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this seas 445cm Posted on Saturday 27th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It kept on snowing for large parts of yesterday. By 6pm, there was 9cm of snowfall and this morning there is an additional 7cm. So another 16cm total snowfall since yesterday morning. And... it is still snowing early this morning with limited visibility. I don't think we are expecting much snow today, but who knows. It has definitely been good to see persistent snow clouds hanging around this week. Due to the snowfall over the last several days there is a JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) avalanche advisory warning out for the Yuzawa area at the moment, currently in effect until today. Enjoy all the fresh snow this weekend, but take care out there. Early morning Kagura is saying that the top Kagura Number 5 lift and the Kagura quad are not going to be opening as planned due to wind. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 11cm Snowfall at base this seas 456cm Posted on Sunday 28th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We had snow falling through lots of the day again yesterday around town areas and just to the north, ending up with 11cm more to add to this report. With the way it was snowing it feels like there should have been more. The snow seems a bit wetter than the snow we received in the previous days. There is still some scattered light snow showers in some areas, and for the most part it should be a cloudy day with the chance of light snow at times. After some windy conditions, there's less wind this morning and all ski areas should be open as planned. The forecast for early week is for not as cold temps with an increasing chance of clearer skies with sun. Particularly on Tuesday. Hopefully this time the temperatures won't rise that much even when the sun comes out... ---------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 190cm The Northern Area connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama is available The Southern Area connection with Yuzawa Kogen is available Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth: 170cm The connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Night skiing until 8:00pm Iwappara Official snow depth: 115cm Night skiing until 7:00pm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 190cm (top) Night skiing until 8:30pm Kagura Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): 3cm Official snow depth: 210cm (top), 160cm (base) Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 135cm Maiko Snow Resort Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): 15cm Official snow depth: 200cm (top), 85cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 280cm (top), 140cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 130cm (top), 80cm (base) Night skiing until 8:30pm NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 150cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 140cm (top), 70cm (base) The connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 125cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 130cm Yuzawa Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Sunday 28th January 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 456cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 25 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 55cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days December 2023 snowfall 137cm reported on 9 days January 2024 snowfall 305cm reported on 14 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Monday 29th January 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this seas 457cm Posted on Monday 29th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. We had some light snow at times during the day and evening again yesterday... though it was borderline rain in lower areas at times, particularly to the north. (Nothing major, thankfully). There looks like there might have been some more snow at higher elevations (and Kagura are reporting 5cm). This morning we are starting with cloudy skies, and that's what most forecasts tell us to expect today. Neighbouring areas are seeing some clearer skies and so there is a chance we might get some of that too. Actually there is already some blue sky appearing in places, as you can see on the NASPA webcam image below. Currently it is hovering around 0C in town. Tomorrow is forecast to be clear and sunny. Temps are going to be rising a little through Wednesday, when it might warm up to around 7C in town. :( Colder weather again from Thursday when we might get some fresh snow. Ski areas look set to be opening as planned this morning. ---------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 190cm The Northern Area connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama is available The Southern Area connection with Yuzawa Kogen is available Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth: 170cm The connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Night skiing until 8:00pm Iwappara Official snow depth: 110cm Night skiing until 7:00pm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 190cm (top) Night skiing until 8:30pm Kagura Official snow depth: 210cm (top), 160cm (base) Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 130cm Maiko Snow Resort Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): 0cm Official snow depth: 190cm (top), 70cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 280cm (top), 140cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 130cm (top), 80cm (base) Night skiing until 8:30pm NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 140cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 140cm (top), 70cm (base) The connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 125cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 130cm Yuzawa Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Monday 29th January 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 457cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 26 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 55cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days December 2023 snowfall 137cm reported on 9 days January 2024 snowfall 306cm reported on 15 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The rain yesterday morning thankfully did turn into snow as it got colder during the day, and by this morning there was around 10cm of snow around town areas, though roads were quickly cleared. Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 10cm of fresh snow. (Without wanting to beat down on the same point repeatedly, I wish more ski areas reported fresh snow! It's a real shame that Kagura rarely do now...) Anyway, there should be some freshness out there this morning. The day has started cloudy, though there has been some (very) light snow falling in some higher elevations early on. Apparently there was some kind of fire at a building (a small eating establishment) in the middle of Iwappara ski area last night. Looks like it has been burnt down... though the ski area seems to be opening as normal (and not mentioning it) this morning. Happily, no-one was hurt. We might get some sun over the weekend, though it doesn't look like it'll be clear blue skies. It might end up being just cloudy. and there seems to be more snowfall on the forecasts in the early part of next week As always, fresh snow falling or not, let's hope it remains cold! ---------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 150cm The Northern Area connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama is available The Southern Area connection with Yuzawa Kogen is available Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth: 130cm The connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Night skiing until 8:00pm Iwappara Official snow depth: 110cm Night skiing until 7:00pm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 170cm (top) Night skiing until 8:30pm Kagura Official snow depth: 210cm (top), 160cm (base) Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 115cm Maiko Snow Resort Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth: 170cm (top), 60cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 240cm (top), 100cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 120cm (top), 60cm (base) Night skiing until 8:30pm See our Naeba Now report NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 115cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 140cm (top), 70cm (base) The connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 115cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 120cm Yuzawa Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Friday 2nd February 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 468cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 27 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 55cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days December 2023 snowfall 137cm reported on 9 days January 2024 snowfall 306cm reported on 15 days February 2024 snowfall 11cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was mostly cloudy with some light snow falling at times and we have had several cm since yesterday. Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 10cm again this morning. So this morning it remains cloudy with some light snow falling early on. It's not the kind that will end up with any new cm and the forecast for the day is basically just cloudy. It looks like there is a chance that tomorrow will see clearer skies. Fresh snow that is forecast still later on Monday and into Tuesday. In the meantime, expect some scrape-y conditions. First lift early morning groomers will be a pick of the day today and tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this seas 493cm Posted on Thursday 8th February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The weather yesterday was, for the most part, cloudy with some light snow in the early afternoon and again in the evening and overnight. The snow didn't really stick around town, though, with just a dusting at our measuring point (can just about justify the 1cm in this report!). There might be some more snow higher up - it looks like there may well be, with many trees on the mountains looking rather snowy. This morning is starting with a mix of cloud and some blue sky (over the last 30 minutes the amount of blue sky has increased). Monday is a national holiday in Japan and quite a lot of visitors celebrating the Chinese New Year are here too. This weekend will probably be one of the busiest of the season. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 11th February 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this seas 509cm Posted on Sunday 11th February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After some rain the snow started to stick on the roads around 11pm and here's how much new snowfall we have received overnight: - Kagura ski area is reporting 20cm - Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 10cm - Our measuring point in Yuzawa had 16cm (and to the north in the Minamiuonuma valley we measured 8cm) So, it looks like we can probably expect 10-20cm or so of fresh snow out on the ski areas, with more as you go higher up. It's great to see that of course and all the trees loaded with snow again this morning. It is currently slightly under 0C, still snowing lightly and that will probably ease off by around lunchtime. There are possible occasional light snow showers and keeping fairly cold (or should I say, not warming up too much) through tomorrow, with a high of around +3C. The really warm spell is expected from Tuesday through until around Thursday. ---------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 170cm The Northern Area connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama is available The Southern Area connection with Yuzawa Kogen is available Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth: 150cm The connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Night skiing until 8:00pm Iwappara Official snow depth: 125cm Night skiing until 8:00pm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 180cm (top) Night skiing until 8:30pm Kagura Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): 20cm Official snow depth: 210cm (top), 160cm (base) Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 145cm Night skiing until 2:00am tomorrow morning Maiko Snow Resort Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth: 190cm (top), 60cm (lower) Night skiing until 8:00pm Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 230cm (top), 100cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 120cm (top), 100cm (base) Night skiing until 8:30pm See our Naeba Now report NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 140cm Night skiing until 7:30pm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 150cm (top), 70cm (base) The connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 125cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 110cm Yuzawa Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Sunday 11th February 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 509cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 31 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 55cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days December 2023 snowfall 137cm reported on 9 days January 2024 snowfall 306cm reported on 15 days February 2024 snowfall 52cm reported on 5 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Monday 12th February 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this seas 510cm Posted on Monday 12th February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's the last day of the long weekend here in Japan. And while ski areas will still probably be busy today, likely not as much as yesterday... especially once it gets to lunchtime and the afternoon. Yesterday it was snowing at times, though it didn't really result in much in terms of new cm. More of varying levels of dusting (which has gone already). Kagura ski area is reporting 3cm of fresh snow this morning. This morning we have blue sky north of Yuzawa with a more overcast start here, but expect the skies to clear fairly quickly. It should be a nice day. Tomorrow will very probably be sunny from early on, and it will start really warming up. Local forecasts predict a high of around 9C in town tomorrow and then up to 12C or higher during the daytime on Wednesday and Thursday. Obviously, those spring-like temperatures are not what we want in the middle of February. Thankfully it does look like it will be cooling down on Friday, but just how the season develops beyond this week is unclear. We can't really do anything other than hope for the best! ---------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 190cm The Northern Area connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama is available The Southern Area connection with Yuzawa Kogen is available Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth: 150cm The connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Night skiing until 8:00pm Iwappara Official snow depth: 120cm Night skiing until 7:00pm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 180cm (top) Night skiing until 8:30pm Kagura Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): 3cm Official snow depth: 210cm (top), 160cm (base) Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 150cm Maiko Snow Resort Fresh snowfall (reported by the ski area): 0cm Official snow depth: 190cm (top), 55cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 230cm (top), 100cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 120cm (top), 60cm (base) Night skiing until 8:30pm See our Naeba Now report NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 140cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 150cm (top), 70cm (base) The connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 125cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 110cm Yuzawa Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Monday 12th February 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 510cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 32 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 55cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days December 2023 snowfall 137cm reported on 9 days January 2024 snowfall 306cm reported on 15 days February 2024 snowfall 53cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 16th February 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this seas 512cm Posted on Friday 16th February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. Yesterday ended up more cloudy than we expected and it warmed up to around 14C in town early afternoon. As expected, temperatures dropped overnight and it is much colder this morning and currently just under 0C. Sleeping through some initial rain, it is snowing this morning. There is a small amount of snow on the ground with varying levels of 'dusting' around town areas and up to a few cm in places. Hopefully there will be some more cm at higher elevations and on the ski slopes. (Unfortunately, no such numbers are being reported by ski areas this morning). It is quite windy too and that is affecting operations at Kagura, which will not be opening as planned (and the Tashiro Area is confirmed as closed for the day). Other ski areas appear to be opening as planned this morning. The forecast for most of the day is generally cloudy skies and it should remain quite cold. Let's hope the snow keeps going as long as possible. Weekend weather looks very likely to be clear and sunny and it will be warming up again, though hopefully not as much as it did this week! ---------------------------- A message from SnowJapan This general message is being posted on each of our daily reports. It is not specific to Yuzawa or any one region of Japan It is hard to grasp that we are already in the second half of February. Where did all the time go? Being so busy with daily updates, every winter seems to fly by so very quickly... By all accounts, this season, there has been a rush of people visiting Japan from most corners of the world to enjoy the mountains. Many famous ski destinations have been busy with 'inbound' guests, with visitor numbers surpassing pre-COVID levels. That subject has been making regular national news here in Japan (and also provoking much-related discussion!) We sincerely hope everyone visiting enjoyed not only the skiing and snowboarding but also the whole Japan experience. And, of course, that everyone visiting in the coming weeks will also have a great time. There are not many things that the people behind SnowJapan love more than massive amounts of consistent snowfall. And skiing/snowboarding on it. That love is literally the reason why this website exists! Inbound visitor statistics aside, the main ski industry story of the 2023-2024 season so far is probably the relatively low snowfall levels across much of Japan. Some regions have been close to normal in terms of expected snowfall. Unfortunately, most regions of Japan haven't had as much snow as usual, and temperatures have stubbornly tended to track 'warmer than usual' which has meant more rain when it might have been snow. While it hasn't been a classic season in terms of the amount of snowfall, that's not to say there haven't been excellent conditions; many people, including this writer, have enjoyed some very fine days. And for most people, it has been perfectly fine. Reading this, you may very well be one of those. On a day-to-day basis, most visitors probably won't even notice 'the bigger picture' that is being discussed here. Less snow, however, has various implications for everyone involved in the ski season and dealing with that bigger picture. One of the big things is that the season will probably be shorter than usual. This last week has been particularly warm; unfortunately, a number of ski areas around Japan have already closed. Unless the weather patterns change significantly, we will be in a situation where we should expect some ski areas to be unable to remain open until their 'planned closing dates'. Those planned closing dates can be found on the individual ski area pages within SnowJapan. Please keep this in mind when looking at the information on our site. While it is impossible to cover the status of every ski area in real-time, our reporters will discuss this subject in our Now daily reports over the coming weeks. All being well, we will get more blasts of winter. Heck, it's still February, so we should! (And we plan to be still reporting into early May). However much more fresh snow we are blessed with across the coming weeks, the best thing we can do is appreciate and celebrate the precious snow we have. ---------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 180cm The Northern Area connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama is available The Southern Area connection with Yuzawa Kogen is available Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth: 135cm The connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Night skiing until 8:00pm Iwappara Official snow depth: 100cm Night skiing until 7:00pm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 170cm (top) Night skiing until 8:30pm Kagura Official snow depth: 210cm (top), 160cm (base) Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 120cm Maiko Snow Resort Official snow depth: 160cm (top), 40cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 220cm (top), 100cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 120cm (top), 60cm (base) Night skiing until 8:30pm See our Naeba Now report NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 120cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 130cm (top), 50cm (base) The connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is available Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 110cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 110cm Yuzawa Now 2023-2024 season Data as of Friday 16th February 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 512cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 33 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 55cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days December 2023 snowfall 137cm reported on 9 days January 2024 snowfall 306cm reported on 15 days February 2024 snowfall 55cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Thursday 22nd February 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this seas 515cm Posted on Thursday 22nd February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. It is very good to see some fresh snow on the ground this morning. After the rain of yesterday/last night, snow started to stick on the roads around 3am this morning. There's only a several cm or so around town areas, but it is still snowing lightly. There might be a bit more as you go higher up on the mountains. (Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 5cm of fresh snow). Light snow forecast this morning, maybe some tomorrow too, and then around Monday too. It us currently just under 0C and it should remain around there for most of the day (and tomorrow too). ---------------------------- Speaking with various people over the last few days (including some ski area manager types): with the way this season has developed, large amounts of snow aren't really expected; rather, they'd be happy to get regular top-ups to keep things fresh would be nice. Having said that, we have been known to be surprised in the past. And it is still February. As always... snow please! ---------------------------- From tomorrow, the top lift at Kagura (Number 5 pair) and BC gate will be open until 1pm every day, rather than 12pm. Tomorrow is a national holiday in Japan, so it's another 3-day weekend. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Thursday 22nd February 2024 Ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region (listed in alphabetical order).
