Various changes, adjustments and fixes have been made to the new site since it first went online in late August, not least in the Daily reports section.
A new feature has today been added to each of the Now reports, so it seems timely to introduce that along with some other recent updates. For this announcement, we'll use Niseko Now as an example, but the same applies to each of the daily reporting sections on SnowJapan.
New season snowfall comparison charts
Two new interactive charts have been added to each Now section. Both display cumulative snowfall, allowing you to compare snowfall patterns for the entire season across multiple seasons. You can toggle the data for any season on or off to make comparisons easier. You can also see the cumulative snowfall for each season at any point on the chart (by clicking or tapping).
The chart on the current 2026-2027 season page will be updated every day. Data for the current season will appear in red, making it stand out from the other years, which are shown as dotted grey lines.
It should be fun watching the red lines progress on each of the Now reports!
There is also a variation of this chart, linked to from the main overview page, which shows historical data up until last season. Here is a direct link to the Niseko chart:
2026-2027 season data will be added to the historical data chart at the end of the season.
Structure of our Now sections
Each Now section has a clear structure – an overview page that introduces interactive charts and links to all our seasonal archives, a current season page that brings together all the data and individual reports from the current season (along with the new daily-updated snowfall comparison chart), and the individual daily reports.
Individual daily reports can be accessed from both of the above pages, as well as from the Home page of the site and the main Daily Reports index page.
New layout of the individual reports
Each individual daily report now has a weather icon, base temperature, a timestamp and clear links to the overview and 2026-2027 season pages.
Rather than trying to explain every detail, please do take a look to see it all in action.
Almost ready for the snow now!
