Asahi Prime is a small hill located in Asahi village to the west of Shiojiri city in the central region of Nagano Prefecture. It is just over 11km to the south west of Matsumoto Airport and calls itself the closest ski area to Matsumoto city.
There was some worry that Asahi Prime might not be able to open for the 2020-2021 season, but happily it will be open with a change in management.
Nagano Prefecture is located in the Chubu region of the main island of Honshu. Most of the Northern Alps, Central Alps and Southern Alps are located within Nagano (along with neighbouring prefectures). Nagano has the second highest number of ski and snowboard resorts in all of Japan and they are spread around the whole prefecture. Nagano city and many of the major ski resorts are located in the northern region.
Ski and snowboard lessons are available at Asahi Prime. Telemark lessons are also available.
