Gokase Highland is located in Gokase town in Miyazaki Prefecture, central Kyushu. It is the most southern ski hill in Japan and found on the north-eastern slopes of Mt Mukozaka. At first it was thought that a ski hill with natural snow in this central Kyushu location would not be possible...but it happened, with Gokase Highland opening in 1990. Snow making machines help out.

Gokase Highland is the only ski hill in Miyazaki Prefecture and one of only a few on the island of Kyushu. Kyushu is the third largest island of Japan and most south-westerly of the four main islands.
