Hounokidaira is located in Takayama city in the northern region of Gifu Prefecture. It is the largest ski hill in Takayama and has been operating since 1971. Hirayu Onsen is close-by. This ski hill features a number of off-piste ungroomed areas.
The Number 8 lift pair lift is definitely not operating and a 'Summit Snow Taxi' service takes people from the top of the Number 3 quad lift over to the summit of the western side.
Gifu Prefecture is located in the Chubu region of the central region of Honshu island, and it one of only a handful of landlocked prefectures. It shares borders with (from the north) Toyama, Nagano, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Fukui and Ishikawa. Most of the ski and snowboard resorts in Gifu are located in the northern region of the prefecture – in Gujo city, Takayama city, Hida city and Shirakawa village.
