Mt Granview is a ski area located in the southwestern region of Minamiuonuma City in Niigata Prefecture.
At one time, Mt Granview had over 10 ski lifts and covered a wider area. However, in recent decades, it had been gradually downscaled. Until March 2023, there were three operating ski lifts at Mt Granview - all three were single-person lifts. The first lift took skiers and snowboarders to the ski area's main base, though it was possible to ski back down to the car park via the winding road course.
Mt Granview was often relatively quiet, even on weekends when surrounding ski areas were very busy. It offered areas of untouched and ungroomed fresh snow and a 'retro' feel that gave it a special appeal.
As the name indicates, it also provided some very gran(d) views of the mountains on the east side of the Minamiuonuma valley.
Mt Granview is the closest ski area to SnowJapan HQ, so it has been very sad to see the ski area not open in recent years. No news has been confirmed, but a re-opening seems unlikely, largely due to the very old facilities.
