Kyoto Hirogawara is the only ski area that has been open in recent years located within the boundaries of Kyoto City.

It is located in an area that is a fair distance from the city centre. At one time, it was popular for late-night opening even on weekdays, though usually not to the point of being busy.

As with other ski areas in this region, it has had a complicated recent history. In January 2022, the ski area announced that the ski lift would no longer operate. It would, however, remain partially open on weekends for sledging and playing in the snow-style activities.

The status of this facility in 2026 remains unclear.
