Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 20cm
Snowfall at base this season 372cm

Posted on Thursday 8th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

There was lots of fresh snow out on the mountain yesterday, and it was being blown about by some sometimes very strong winds. Not the most 'friendly' of conditions.

I have logged in 20cm as the new snow for the day which includes the few cm overnight as well as what we got yesterday - though difficult to pinpoint a number with all that wind.

Not as windy this morning though there's still a wind with us.

Cold conditions, moderate wind and snow showers seems to be what is forecast for the coming few days.

From today, and every Thursday until 26th March, some of us can take advangage of a special 'Ladies Day' 1 day ticket at the reduced cost of 3500 yen. You need to be a lady though - sorry guys!

Official snow depths:

Utopia: 175cm

Chuo: 200cm

Paradise: 180cm

Uwanodai: 135cm
