Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 276cm

Posted on Friday 7th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Back to fog land after two great sunny days. It also feels much colder than what the thermometer says.

It is supposed to be a partially sunny day but some days this comes on later. The fog is retreating up the mountain and the sun is shining on and off in the valley and below base so this is probably going to be the case. Only light snow today. Wind-wise, it is going to be blowy higher up which may affect some lifts.

Official snow depth

Summit: 90cm

Paradise: 130cm

Chuo: 130cm

Utopia: 195cm

Uwanodai: 100cm

Almost all lifts and areas and runs are scheduled to be open.
