Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata
New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 302cm
Posted on Friday 31st January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.
Strong winds this morning... and lots of the mountain is closed due to those conditions at the moment meaning a bit of congestion on the base lifts open. Though I think that lots of people might write the day off and spend it soaking in an onsen as it's a bit wild at the moment out there.
The sun should be shining tomorrow morning, but as in many other regions it's going to warm up for Sunday and there's a chance of rain even up here.
Back to winter from Tuesday, according to the forecast.
Have a good weekend and Happy Chinese New Year to friends visiting from overseas.
Official snow depths:
Utopia: 250cm
Chuo: 195cm
Paradise: 225cm
Uwanodai: 140cm
