Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 39cm
Snowfall at base this season 244cm

Posted on Thursday 25th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

It's another cold morning in Zao.

It started snowing around 2pm yesterday, with some major wind gusts and limited visibility, and it looks like it hasn't stopped with a good amount of new snow down to base.

There is fog halfway up the mountain and the snow is currently coming at us almost horizontally.

Snow might continue into tomorrow but this new snowfall will have given the runs a very welcome refresh.

The summit area has added a big increase to official snow depth busting through 1m up to 1.5m.
