Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 255cm

Posted on Monday 22nd December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

A few cm of new snowfall this morning in Zao along with cold temperatures (-6C when I got up this morning), morning fog and generally poor visibility both at base and on the slopes.

Hardly any wind though... for the moment.

Very nice snow conditions out there with more fresh snow on the way today and forecast stronger winds.

Clearer weather is probably tomorrow before we get back into fresh snow falling for Christmas.

All of Zao is now open apart from the Ryuzan area (and the Karamatsu lift which is closed on weekdays).

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Zao Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
