Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 468cm

Posted on Tuesday 18th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Morning from Zao as the cold and wintery conditions continued. It might be fun for all the powder hunters on the slopes, but the resort is having to play catch up a bit - I am told that the Kurohime lifts for example are closed due to the road being blocked over to that area. But hopefully they will open that sometime during the day today. Most of the resort is open though now.

Cloudy at the moment with a moderate wind.

Clearer conditions tomorrow?

Official snow depths:

Utopia: 310cm

Chuo: 260cm

Paradise: 300cm

Uwanodai: 180cm

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Zao Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
