Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this season 443cm

Posted on Wednesday 13th March 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Good morning.

A windy and snowy start to the day early on. The wind has created huge snow drifts in places. The wind is strong and almost certainly going to be affecting at least some ropeways/ski lifts.

It's still early so don't know if this fog will be hanging around. The trees in front of my place looks like snow monsters in the beginning stages of development.

Snow depth numbers still rising.

Tomorrow should be clearer and hopefully less windy but wind may remain an issue over the next few days according to forecasts.

This is a very weird season!
