Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 225cm

Posted on Tuesday 12th January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

After a fairly sunny day yesterday (which failed to dislodge the 2' of snow still on my roof because of the temperature), we're back to fog, a recurring pattern here.

Still, no complaints if it keeps the snow good.

It is snowing lightly but unlikely to be more than dusting ceasing during the day until the evening, but even then, no real amounts.

Looks like the next real blue sky day will be on Friday.

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Zao Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
