Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 18cm

Posted on Friday 6th December 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

I was perhaps slightly over generous with my 1cm of snowfall added to the report yesterday. What was there quickly disappeared from lower areas, and we were rained on later in the day, but this morning we have a fresh layer of snow on the ground and everywhere is once again looking white.

I am measuring just over 5cm.

Kagura resort are this morning reporting 10-15cm of fresh snowfall. No word on expanded operations for the weekend at Kagura, though I would think that is surely a possibility. I will update this report later on today if I hear anything so do check back this evening.

Naeba is also going to be part opening from tomorrow and we'll be updating the Naeba Now report later today.

I'm pretty sure Joetsu Kokusai will not be opening tomorrow (they had a provisional planned opening of 7th December), so they'll be on standby.

The weekly forecast doesn't seem to be showing as much snow potential as it was a few days ago, with a bit of a milder spell currently due early to mid next week. (That would definitely be a 'booooo!')

For now, it's snowing!
