Good morning from Yuzawa and welcome back to the Yuzawa Now reports.
We are now less than three weeks away from the planned opening of the upper areas of Kagura. There has been some snow on upper mountains, but currently Kagura is looking bare.
It was a hot summer but temperatures dropped (seemingly suddenly) in October, though it's fairly comfortable autumn conditions at the moment.
A few are still in autumn mode but most ski areas around Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma are now busy preparing for the winter season. The general news in Japan has gradually been getting brighter, and people are hopeful for an improvement on last season - particularly with an increase in the number of domestic skiers and snowboarders. Travel restrictions remain for potential visitors from overseas. Hopefully that will change sooner than later. We will of course mention any such news in our reports this season.
Last season we got some excellent snowfall in December. Let's have some more of that this time.
We will post updates here from time to time before Kagura opens and as usual there will be daily reports throughout the winter months.
