Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this seas 156cm

Posted on Tuesday 30th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

After some fine weather yesterday and fairly mild conditions after the cold start to the day, we start this morning with some ominous looking clouds... and spots of rain. (It might be trying to snow higher up).

The good news is that we are still looking forward to snow tomorrow and this time perhaps it might keep snowing for several days. We'll have to see just how much.

The minimal snow base is just about enabling some lower level ski areas to be part open, with patches of ground showing through in places. Ski areas at higher elevations are faring better, as you would expect. But several days of consistent and sometimes heavy snow (please) is what everyone needs right now.

So while it's certainly not exciting conditions this morning, we do have something to look forward to across the next few days.

Tashiro Ropeway over at Kagura Ski Area had some kind of problem yesterday and it will also be closed today. So the Tashiro Area of Kagura is unavailable today. Let's hope they can fix whatever the problem is quickly.
