Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 11cm
Snowfall at base this seas 468cm

Posted on Friday 2nd February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

The rain yesterday morning thankfully did turn into snow as it got colder during the day, and by this morning there was around 10cm of snow around town areas, though roads were quickly cleared.

Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 10cm of fresh snow. (Without wanting to beat down on the same point repeatedly, I wish more ski areas reported fresh snow! It's a real shame that Kagura rarely do now...)

Anyway, there should be some freshness out there this morning.

The day has started cloudy, though there has been some (very) light snow falling in some higher elevations early on.

Apparently there was some kind of fire at a building (a small eating establishment) in the middle of Iwappara ski area last night. Looks like it has been burnt down... though the ski area seems to be opening as normal (and not mentioning it) this morning. Happily, no-one was hurt.

We might get some sun over the weekend, though it doesn't look like it'll be clear blue skies. It might end up being just cloudy. and there seems to be more snowfall on the forecasts in the early part of next week

As always, fresh snow falling or not, let's hope it remains cold!
