Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this seas 446cm

Posted on Thursday 26th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

In the last hour or so, there has been some blue sky appearing and the sun is breaking through the clouds to the north as well. It might not last long with more snow due, particularly from this afternoon.

We did get some more snow yesterday. There was 5cm on our measuring spot by 6pm, and a further 5cm there this morning.

It is still keeping very cold and snow conditions should be really good everywhere at the moment.

Also good news is that while it is still a bit windy, there is less than yesterday and all ski areas appear to be opening as planned this morning.

Forecasts show more snow on the way over the coming days. Tomorrow night into Saturday is looking like it might be the heaviest.

(By the way, it was too late for the report yesterday, but Tashiro were apparently dealing with 80cm of fresh snowfall yesterday).

Mid-morning update:

Blue skies and sunshine!
