Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 7cm
Snowfall at base this seas 104cm

Posted on Friday 26th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

The snow started early morning and as if 9am it is falling very nicely and quickly piling up. My measurement so far is 7cm. It's not expected to still be snowing by this time tomorrow, but all being well I'll have a decent number to report tomorrow morning.

If it does continue, we can expect at least some of the ski areas that are still on standby to open to actually get part open tomorrow. At this point, that is just a guess.... other than Maiko Snow Resort which has confirmed that it plans to open tomorrow morning.

Lots might change between now and tomorrow morning, so the information listed below might quickly be out of date. We'll be sure things are good once things calm down.

There was some strong wind early morning.

Kagura is open up to Kagura Gondola and the Tashiro Area is closed. Due to wind.

Ishiuchi Maruyama and Yuzawa Kogen both closed for skiing/snowboarding today (largely due to snow). Hopefully will re-open very soon.

Apologies for the somewhat fragmented report this morning!

What's important is that we are getting some snow. May it continue.
