Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 25cm

Posted on Wednesday 25th December 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Yuzawa and Happy Christmas!

We would all prefer much more snow, of course, but what can you do! I promise to be chirpy and cheerful this morning!

It was trying to snow at times during the day yesterday down in town (more successfully snowing higher up and I noticed over at Naeba too), though it never really got going so while there was probably a few more cm at higher elevations there is none to report at town base.

It is a beautiful clear and sunny Christmas morning. There is layer of frost on the car windscreen and a moderate southerly wind.

Just taking a moment to take in the beauty of our mountains.

Good news this morning is that GALA Yuzawa is opening their Melody and Entertainment courses this morning - so you can ski and snowboard at GALA again now. They are reporting 30cm of snow; so it's not deep and there may be bushes. But it's open and available!

Yuzawa Kogen is operating the Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway and they have a sledding play area open but note that there are no skiing or snowboarding courses open there yet.

Have yourself a merry day wherever you may be.
