Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this seas 346cm

Posted on Monday 24th February 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

We're really not catching many breaks with the weather this season, are we.

So yesterday it was kind-of snowing in Yuzawa and kind-of raining just to the north in Minamiuonuma. It certainly wasn't the day of nice snow that we thought we might have had... well, not in town anyway. Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 5cm of fresh snowfall and Kagura are reporting 5-10cm, so it sounds like upper mountain areas got a layer of fresh. (I am recording 1cm this morning from the dusting+ we got down in town).

Things look brighter - and are calmer - this morning. The sun is out and there is lots of blue sky over Yuzawa, lots more cloud to the north.

There is some more fresh snow on the forecast for this week. Let's hope it comes.
