Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this seas 97cm

Posted on Wednesday 24th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

We have some early morning rain, hoping it will ease off this morning.

GALA Yuzawa is going to be closed all of today due to forecast winds. And also only the Mitsumata Area of Kagura ski area will be open today (Tashiro and main Kagura Area closed).

Yuzawa Kogen is, at time of writing, checking and so unclear if it will open this morning. As is Ishiuchi Maruyama.

There may be other changes at the other ski areas that are open.

Things feel rather... unexciting... right now. But our current situation is not unique. At times like this it is worth remembering that the situation can change very quickly... and often does. If Friday brings us the snow that is on the forecasts, everything will hopefully look much different come Saturday. Let's keep that in mind and look forward to it. And perhaps at the same time let's try not to focus too much just on Friday - just in case it doesn't live up to the expectation!

It is worth noting that as well as the snow, strong winds are also forecast for Friday. That may well disrupt lifts, but the good from that is that it sounds like the day is going to bring us some proper blizzard-like conditions. And we need that. (Well, the snow, anyway).
