Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 26cm
Snowfall at base this seas 151cm

Posted on Monday 23rd December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Another 26cm of fresh snowfall to report as of 9am this morning and moderate snowfall still falling.

Once again, only the Mitsumata Area of Kagura is open this morning, due to the weather conditions (particularly the wind).

That aside, ski areas are generally part to mostly to fully open. We are noticing a few lifts being rested today compared with yesterday and that is probably due to it being Monday.

The three ski areas that make up Yuzawa Snow Link (Yuzawa Kogen, GALA Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama) are all open but the 'link' right now is limited to a shuttle bus between them. It looks like the lift connections between them (Buggy and Landau Ropeway ropeway are scheduled to be open from Friday 3rd January).

It feels like more snow is needed to really push everywhere into opening up fully and hopefully the snow we get by the end of tomorrow will help towards that.

Wednesday might be clearer but there's more snow lined up on forecasts from Thursday night, Friday and Saturday.

Surely by the time we get to the end of the year, all will be set!

While we haven't really had any signature 'really crazy mad snowfall' just yet, down at town level anyway, this early showing of very respectable snowfall is a nice contrast to some of the early season struggles we have endured in recent years. That is, of course, really great to see.

Hopefully this pattern of regular snowfall and temperatures that remain low will be an ongoing feature of this season.

It seems that some of you who entered the lift ticket giveaway (details below) did not receive the automated email. Sorry about that. Not sure why it is happening, and we really don't have any time to investigate right now. However, please be assured that unless your email got bounced back to you as undeliverable, we have received your entry. (We have received well over 500 so far). Entries OK through Thursday.
