Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this season 1191cm

Posted on Friday 20th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Something of a wet day yesterday with either rain or wet snow falling for large parts of the day around town areas.

I'm happy to report that it is snowing this morning with just a few cm on the car outside so I was quite surprised to see Kagura report 30cm and Maiko lower down by town here also report 20cm. Naeba resort report 10-20cm with up to 40cm in some wind blown places.

So sounds like there'll be a decent layer out there. If we can get some more during the day today that would be good.

Forecast for the weekend is clearer skies tomorrow, followed by rain on Sunday along with those potentially rather warm conditions.

It's the famous Tokamachi Snow Festival this weekend which features lots of large snow sculptures amongst other events. About 45-60 minutes from Yuzawa by car, will depend on the road conditions, and usually worth a look.
