Good morning from Yuzawa; I have good news!
Now that all the bears have gone to sleep - hopefully/please/maybe not - we start this morning with a celebratory blanket of snow in town.
I was just looking back at the data from previous seasons. Since SnowJapan started collecting daily snowfall records in 2012, the first cm of snow in town recorded in Yuzawa Now reports was just 1cm on 15th November 2012.
Since then, the earliest snowfall was reported on 19th November.
Today is also 19th November and we have our first snow of the season in town. And it is actually a pretty decent amount of it too! It was snowing very nicely at times last night.
I am measuring 12cm.
Kagura ski area isn't reporting anything yet, but the guess is there should be (much) more than that high up in the mountains.
Very often the first snow down to town disappears before winter starts properly, so don't expect this town covering to last.
Clearer skies and milder conditions are expected over the coming several days, with perhaps a little snow on Friday night.
I'll let you know when there is news from Kagura regarding a possible opening.
