Kagura is reporting no new snowfall overnight, but it has started snowing this morning and has started to stick. Currently just under 0C in town.
As of 8:20am, I can report 1cm from our measuring point in town and hopefully it will continue so we'll get some new cm today and tomorrow. I don't think we are expecting significant snowfall - that looks more likely from early Sunday morning. (And before then we might get clearer skies on Friday and during the day on Saturday).
The very welcome early rush of snowfall we enjoyed covered the mountains and really helped with early and on-time ski area openings.
I think we are all now looking to the skies and hoping to see some good old snow country style heavy snow to get things going and help build up the numbers.
Update:
5 ski areas in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region plan to open from Friday (20th December) and 7 further ski areas plan to open from Saturday (21st December).
As of this morning, all but Muica Snow Resort and Yuzawa Park have confirmed that they will be opening as planned. It's likely those two will also be able to open as planned... they just haven't announced it yet. Note that they will probably not all be able to be 'fully open' we'll have more details on operations at each of them come Friday morning.
