Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 45cm
Snowfall at base this season 434cm

Posted on Wednesday 5th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Shiga Kogen.

It's still snowing! And the winds are still blowing. Not quite as much as they were, but it's still a bit wild outside.

Both Yakebitaiyama and Kumanoyu are reporting 40cm of fresh snow. I have measured more than that and there's way more than that in places where wind has been playing about with it.

Basically: a lot.

The conditions mean that some lifts are struggling to open, but hopefully things will calm down later this morning.

Tomorrow will be calmer and might even be bright and clear.

Needless to say, snow conditions should be excellent.
