Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 3cm

Posted on Friday 23rd November 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Hello and good morning from Shiga Kogen where... the ski season has started!

As has, indeed, the snowboard season! :)

So yes the news this morning is that Kumanoyu is reporting a snow depth of 20cm on the slopes (real snow + artificial snow) and they are operating their Number 2 pair lift. 600m of a 30-50m wide course area is open and they plan to be open daily from now on. Snow making machines will help out in that respect as long as temperatures remain low.

We were thinking we might have more snow than we got overnight - just a few cm on the ground in places - but it's good to see everywhere white once again. It would be good if we could remain white but there isn't much snow on the forecast for the coming week beyond today.

Other ski resorts will start opening (hopefully) from 1st December.
