Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this season 10cm

Posted on Tuesday 18th November 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

The last week has seen temperatures plummet and some sprinklings of snow and.... oh yes, the Kumanoyu area is open!

Yes, the first ski lift of the season is moving. Just the Number 2 pair lift, with a 600m run of around 20-30m width has opened this morning. There has been a layer of real snow with the snow machines backing that up to let this happen.

So it's the officially the first day of the ski season in Shiga Kogen - please note that snowboarders aren't allowed at the Kumanoyu area, it's skiers only. (Don't blame us!)

These Shiga Kogen Now reports will become daily once we are into December and more is open but we'll keep this page updated a few times a week until then.
