Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 54cm
Snowfall at base this season 823cm

Posted on Sunday 18th February 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Morning from Shiga Kogen.

Just got back from digging out of my home as we have a lot of fresh snowfall this morning. Lots and lots of snow. Wind has been a factor since yesterday and so it has been blown around making numbers varied this morning. For example, Kumanoyu are reporting about 40cm. My excitable friend is saying 'over 80cm'. It has to be said that he always tends towards, er, rather large numbers!

I have taken three measurements - 46cm, 54cm and 64cm. My usual measuring point is the mid one, so that is what I am logging up for the report today.

Whichever number you prefer, they'll all big numbers. A lot of fresh snow everywhere.

It is still snowing but visibility is improved at the moment, but still limited in places.

Take care out there this morning. Beware of deep snow! (I'm not joking!)
