Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this season 348cm

Posted on Saturday 17th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Snow, reduced visibility and a moderate wind is what sums up this morning.

It was much calmer as yesterday ended, but this morning much more stormy with very limited visibility at the moment - certainly in the Maruike area where I am now but earlier on I was up at the Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama area and I couldn't see much in front of my up there either.

The wind and conditions are affecting some lifts around the area. In particular most of the lifts at Okushiga Kogen mostly seem to be on hold; other than that just a few other lifts showing sings of 'waiting for conditions to improve' as I write this.

Snow is forecast for throughout today and easing off by tomorrow morning. Wind too hopefully.

Watch out for the cold though it's actually going to get colder as the day goes on today and should be extremely cold overnight. Wind chill!
