Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 236cm
Posted on Tuesday 6th January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
Good morning from Nozawa and there's a lot of people lining up for the first gondola of the day.
For good reason, too, with the ski area reporting up to 35cm of snowfall since 3pm yesterday. That is around when it started (down at base anyway).
The snow has stopped and there is even a bit of blue sky appearing away from the mountain. Clouds still cover the top areas, though, and it may well still be snowing up there. Visibility looks limited at the start of the day.
Some sun is forecast during tomorrow with more fresh snow due to be falling from the skies on Thursday, with more lined up for late weekend.
The numbers are still relatively low, but it feels like we're into a good pattern now. Let's hope it continues and the snow comes in big numbers.
