Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 325cm

Posted on Friday 16th January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

A big bank of cloud covering the mountain this morning and the ski area is actually reporting up to 5cm up in the top area. None below where it has been... how should I say it... damp. Thankfully not raining now.

It is a (relatively, of course) mild morning, currently just over 2C.

Very limited visibility on the mountain at the start of the day but it appears that the lifts should be opening as scheduled.

For those visiting over the weekend, it's probably going to start with some clearer skies with the chance of snow overnight.

I'm really liking the look of Tuesday/Wednesday next week, though. Proper cold and proper heavy snow. Naski will be pleased. That's one vegetable that loves deep fresh.
