Posted on Wednesday 2nd March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here

A bit of new snow to report this morning, but not a whole lot. There is a lot of cloud around this morning but some blue sky too. See images below to get a good idea of the situation. As of 8:30am the top lifts at Hirafu, Village Annupuri are not opening as planned due to windy conditions up there.

Currently forecasts show some potentially decent snow falling over the weekend.

I really can't think of much else to say this morning, so, see you tomorrow.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Moiwa base: -4℃, 10cm of light snowfall, calm. Moiwa 800m: -5.0℃, WNW8.0m/s, 10cm snowfall, snowdrift development. Annupuri 1150m: -8.1℃, WNW6.4m/s, 16m/s gusty wind, 10cm snowfall, snowdrift development. Hirafu 1000m: -7.8℃, NNW7.8m/s. Hirafu 1250m: -9℃, SE15m/s, snowdrift development with wind blown snow. Coastal data- Benkei cape: NNW14m/s, Kamui cape: NW10m/s, 1007hPa, 0.7m waves.

Weak wintery pressure distribution after the passing of a low pressure system. Light snowdrift development overnight with 10cm snowfall from the base to 1000m elevation. Be careful, shallow surface avalanches are likely to occur on knoll, on course edges, and slopes next to the top chairlifts. This morning, there was an avalanche at 1150m elevation at Annupuri while grooming. From observation, snow drifts development is small, however due to the low pressure snowfall, the crystals are not bounded well to the snow below them and can easily fracture. All gates are expected to be open. Please seek advice from the patrols before going out of bounds. As the atmospheric pressure gradient tightens snowdrifts will develop. It is better to stay away from Kohzan no sawa, Annupuri Osawa, and Higashione cornice slopes today. The mountain is partially reset and tree runs are good today. Low light is making it hard to see the snow surface. Be careful of crashing and falling down. This information is published to help minimize accidents in out bounds area. Respect Niseko Rules. Is your beacon switched on?
