Niseko Now: Wednesday 28th October 2026
Updated: 3 hours ago
Good morning from Niseko. And a good morning it is!
It has been snowing. Hurray! I can report 2cm and guess that there will be more at higher elevations. Lower runs are looking a mix of white and green sticking through. Speckled? Take a look at the images below from 8:30am to get an idea. It is still snowing and windy too.
Naughty rain might come along tomorrow and wash away the thin white covering that we have this morning.
You have probably noticed a few changes to the report this morning.
Far be it for me to explain the new site, but… let me explain. A bit of it anyway. Going back to early last year, I believe the whole idea of the new site was to basically ignore the (what was then the current) old site and rebuild SnowJapan all-new. With a particular wish to make everything simpler, cleaner, lighter and just generally less complicated. One of the reasons for old complications was the previous site being built on the same foundations for a fair while. The new site started with a genuine clean slate (though obviously with several decades worth of content/data). It is surprisingly difficult to make such in-depth information as is presented on this website appear simple and clean.
So what has changed this morning? Well, up top there’s a general weather icon – just one this season, not a set of icons – the temperature at base (as per my trusty thermometer), a time stamp, and two prominent links.
One link goes to Niseko Now overview. That is basically 'Niseko Now HQ', the central place for everything Niseko Now, with links to various chart visualisations (of snowfall data), all previous seasons (dating back to 2012) and the archive of individual daily reports.
The other link goes to 2026-2027 season. That cunningly-named page presents all information related to the 2026-2027 season, including snowfall data and links to each individual report.
There is a clear link to the latest report from either of those jolly interesting pages.
And just so you don't miss them, those two links also appear in the table below along with the daily 'snapshot' of the season so far.
There are two more pieces of the daily reporting puzzle left to fall into place…
One is the daily-updated official snow depth information for ski areas around Japan, which will be found here. I believe those updates will start sometime in November.
The other is specific to each Now section and I think it will be a really cool and interesting addition. It’s still in preparation and so super top secret, but we’ll all be seeing it soon enough.
Excite times indeed.
(Note: the other Now reports on SnowJapan will get similar updates over the coming weeks).
