Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido
New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 900cm
Posted on Wednesday 27th February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here
3cm of fresh snow has gathered on the ground overnight. Hurray!
Hopefully that will mean slightly more than that at higher elevation. I think we're going to have to take these fairly small offerings when we can now; there is little sign that we are going to be getting much more. As things look right now anyway.
Blue skies, some sunshine and some cloud hanging around. It should be a fine morning. All should be open.

Niseko Avalanche Report:
Mountain base 6am: -6℃, 3cm snowfall. Moiwa800m: -7.2℃, W4.34m/s, cornice and snowdrifts developments. Annupuri1120m snow depth 250cm, -10.3℃ at 1000m. Hirafu peak: -10℃, swowdrifts developing. Sea of Japan Benkei cape: NW9m/s, Kamui cape WSW8m/s, 1021hPa, 1.3m waves.
A snowstorm picked up around 8pm yesterday, making cornices and snowdrifts up to 30cm thickness develop in leeward slopes above 800m elevation. The avalanche risk in knolls and slopes under cornices is moderately high. Some gusts are still blowing in higher elevation. All gates are scheduled to open, please follow the ski patrol’s instructions. A layer of new snow has blanketed most slopes, but not deep conditions. Thin surface slab slides from Feb 26th layer should be considered in open steep slopes. Ride one by one, do not cut across slopes and stay away of valley bottoms. The mountain is back to winter today. Have a nice day.
